Hello

My girlfriend is set on a Repertoire Dream Solitaire setting from
Hearts on Fire with an Asscher cut diamond.

When looking for an Asscher is there a certain Depth/Table% parameters I should
try and stay in?

When looking at GIA graded asschers is there any way to figure out the crown height %,
and if so is there a certain range to stay in with Asschers?

Is VS2 or better a good way to go or should I only be looking at VS1 and better?

Do the cutlet and girdle matter?

Here are GIA Reports on 10 ASSCHER diamonds:

So what do you think?

If you had to just pick 1 or 2 to take a look at which would you check out?

Also please let me know if there are any of the 10 you think I should
completely ignore.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!

The girdle should not be very thin. And it should be consistent. The max deviation I would go with is one step. So thin to medium or medium to thick for example. Table-- 58 to 62. Depth should be greater than the table-- you can go up to 69%-- but personally I wouldn't go deeper than 64%-- you loose too much spread (mm size) that way. Polish and Symmetry each should be very good or better. Excellent would be best for both. length to width ratio should be 1.00 to 1.01-- techinally up to 1.05 is considered square-- but I wouldn't go past 1.02. VS2 is fine-- make sure it's eyeclean. As for color--- Go look at some step cuts in different colors. Some people on here have beautiful I asschers-- but many people on here wouldn't go below G or H in a step cut. It's personal. In a one carat asscher the closest you can get to 6mm square or larger then better. On and GIA cert.

Number 10 is the best . But the price is too high IMO. Number 5 is okay-- not enough spread for me though. I have a 1.09 at 5.87 x 5.86 with 64 depth... and Kaleigh has one that's under a carat that is STUNNING-- and with the same spread as mine has. Number 5 is good too and number 8. Number 6 might be nice as wel. Overall they are deeper than I'd like-- therefore they have less spread. But they should be very lovely to look at. With asschers you HAVE to see them-- either in pics or in person.

Have you looked at goodoldgold.com?

Gypsy.....thank you vey much for your opinions......if you have a chance to take a look at these other 10 (#''s 11-20) different
GIA certified specs..... let me know if you think any of them are worth the $ over #10(your favorite) from the 1st list......THANKS!

Does it matter if there is a Cutlet?

thanks everyone

I look for a table in the mid to high 50s to the very low 60s.
Depth between 60% and 70% and with a discount out to 75%
shallower isn’t always better because most of the top asschers right now are on the deep side of the range because of rough availability.
crown height: over 10% <--- very important to add fire.
LW ratio as close to 1 as possible.
clipped cornered square vs more octagonal is personal preference Iv seen some awesome ones both ways and like the clipped cornered square look better.
Then it comes down to all eyeballs and pictures.
strong and even windmills?
Are the squares well defined and concentric?
Does it have the 10 mile deep look under indirect lighting?

Id say that better than 95% of them will fail the last 3 tests

I also want to add that vg or better on polish and symmetry is another thing I look for.
To me it shows that the cutter took better care in cutting it and there is a better chance of the rest being right.
That isnt always the case but its something to think about.

The shallow ones with culets bigger than none I wouldnt bother with.
There have been too many dogs in that range.
There seems to be one cutter that cuts them like that and they woof.

"crown height: over 10% font>

Is there any way I can calculate the Crown Height from my listed specs or from the GIA report
(not sure if it''s a mathematical calculation, or just a separate stat from different reports)?
In other words how can I figure out of the crown height is over 10% ?

Thanks everyone for all your help!

Thanks everyone for all your help!
sarin report or eyeballs is the only way to know if the crown height is good.

Thanks for all the excellent advice!

I think I am going to go with #5 from my list.

Here is a copy of the GIA cert, is the cloud position with VS2 anything to worry about?

Does everything else look good as far as paper goes?

I am having them check to see if they can find out the crown height.......hoping it''s 10%+ .....if
they come back and say its 9%...should I be alarmed?

Hello strmrdr & Rocky Talk gang-

I am hoping to hear back on the crown height information later today.

I know 10% - 14% is probably the best to look for, but what % is considered to low (9% or lower?)
and what % do you consider to high (16% and higher)?

Also anyone have any input on my Hearts on Fire vintage setting above?

Still debating on if I should go with white gold or platinum? I have read some posts on each, but here are some
additional stats if it helps: the band is under 2mm thick, asscher diamond, & her ring size is 4 1/4 - 4 1/2.

As always THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

10%+ is what Id stick with.
There isn''t really an upper limit if they are cut right ... these days some of the best being cut are in the 16%-18% range.
There can be some pattern distortion above 15% but it doesnt show up in well cut asschers very often.

I know know anthing about the quality of the HOF settings so I can''t help you there. It looks like it is very pretty though and will look great with an asscher.

I prefer platinum. WG reacts to my skin and changes to yellow very quickly on me. Some don''t mind just having their WG rings "dipped" or re-plated every so often, my sister in law does hers every six months, but I''d rather just have platinum. I like the weight of it and the platinum guild has done a great job in selling it to me
41.gif

i think the setting is beautiful atariman. great choice.
2.gif

as far as picking a metal, it is a personal decision. i tend to like wg better but i am one of those people who has never had to have a piece replated like many others seem to. do you know if your intended has any other wg or platinum jewelry? that could help with the decision.

strmrdr-

They tracked down the crown height on #5 & it''s 18.5%......what do you think?

STORM ALERT
26.gif

Ok strmrdr ....I will try to make this my last question (especially since I have no Pics)

That 18.5% crown height on #5 was higher then I expected, and now I am doubting which to pick again.

So could you go through my original picks below (just 6 of them(2 now including crown height),
and comment on what you think of each based on the current stats?

If you think any which do not list crown height info are worthy,
let me know and I will track down the CH.

YOU RoCk!

THANKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKS! Also if you know of any other Asschers with similar/better stats (under $7,500) from
reputable sellers, please fwd me the diamond links.

what does the vendor say about getting pictures?
kinda wierd that they wont,,, most of the best will....

5 is still in the running just need pictures and or for you to view it in person.

"#5 looks good now need pictures to tell ya more, its as far as one can go with the numbers. "

I somehow missed your last post, so the 18.5% is nothing to be alarmed about?
I was worried about possible pattern distortion, and started to lean toward #10.

18.5% can be fine but need pics...

check out the second Jamesallen diamond I linked.....
bling for the buck in a kicken asscher.

That 2nd one is deff a nice price. Is the 3D picture of the actual stone? I am seeing some yellow in that 1,
but no yellow in the rotating 3D from the 1st link you sent. Not sure if that has to do from dropping
from a color E to G, or something else? Not sure why but I have something in my head which makes me want to get
a F or better...lol If you see any other great ones on their site let me know.

I must just scrap my plan and go with one of these if it gets your grade A approval.

I know nothing about James Allen but guess I can do a search here, and read all about it.

Thanks for all your help, I never would have guessed going into this, how much work goes into picking a great diamond.
