A previous post listed some extremely rare gems. Here are some of my rare gems. They are not extremely are as a gem species, but in this quality, perhaps they are.

Apophyllite, 11.70 cts, India. It is colorless, but is picking up some blue from the sky.

This is amazing!!

Thanks for sharing!!

Golden scapolite, 10.92 cts, Tanzania. This came from a 50 ct crystal, but suffered severe weight loss, due to orienting it for best color.

Purple scapolite, 1.30 cts, Tanzania

Zincite, 3.25 cts, Poland

Fantastic stones zeo...that rhodo is superb

Excellent selection of gemstones. The rhodochrosite is spectacular. I've started collecting unusual stones on a small scale and have a couple that you have. But yours put mine to shame in comparison. Thanks for sharing.

beautiful stones, beautiful pictures!

gemmy rhodocrosite is divine and not seen very often at all. very very lovely!

Wow! I love the aragonite  Thank you for sharing!

Zeo, you have quite the collection - I would describe every stone I've seen of yours as top of the line and definitely lust worthy. You have assembled a collection doubly noteworthy due to its breadth of unusual stones as well as the high quality nature of the specimens.

Every time you post I know to anticipate great stones and I am not disappointed.

Very nice gems and spectacular cutting, as always. I love your collection.

The rhodo, however, did startle me a bit - it is the exact shape of a coffin (sorry, but the image sprung to mind and stayed!).

I have a large Amazonite. It's rare, but not extremely rare. It's a very cool stone, though. Reminds me of the color of the water in Cozumel

I'd love to see this stone in real life. Unusual and beautiful!

Beautiful stones! The rhodocrosite is really something -- outdoes my cab pair by light years. I LOVE the purple scapolite -- never saw that before. Is it heated or are they natural that yummy color?

Thank you Thuvia. Rhodochrosite is known mainly as an opaque ornamental stone. It is quite rare in facet quality. Most faceted gems come from Sweet Home mine, Colorado, or from Chile. Even the finest tend to have a hazy or sleepy quality.

The finest color comes from Hotazel, South Africa. the location of this gem. The crystal was bought from an old collection, many years ago, when better quality was available. This example has a clarity and a color intensity that I've not seen, before of since. It is one of a kind.

The polite, marketing name for this shape is "calf's head". Sound better, doesn't it? I actually call it a coffin cut, too. The crystal was exactly this shape, so that is why it cut into this unusual shape.

Some purple scapolite is natural, others are irradiated. The irradiated ones seem to be a deeper tone, with some brown. Try a google search on "gems and gemology irradiated scapolite", for more opinions.
