Somebody's Gotta Buy This Piece!

I'm curious to see where the price will land. I've been listening to the auction in the background as I've been working this afternoon, and final prices have been HIGH!

Haha! I’ve been doing the exact same thing all day while working. They had a gorgeous sapphire, emerald, pearl ring in Lot 60, estimated at $800-1000 and I think it went for $2800… not to mention the 35% buyers fee, shipping etc. I’ll stick with dreaming about it, that’s free!

Who's looking for a graduated french cut band? Bonhams has this one on auction as we speak. Will sell within the next hour.

Wow 2.8ct for 14k USD!! Rarity is playing a big role there. Still, a little surprised. that’s $$

I hope it went to a private collector but maybe it will turn up on Andria Barbone for 30k lol

I hope it went to a PS member. The last time I checked, ( a few hours ago) , it was at approximately $4000, plus buyers premium. I’m sure it didn’t sell for that but, what a bargain if it did!

It went for so much more… sigh. Fingers and toes crossed someone here had the pockets. If Flora wasn’t set and she would have fit, I would have bought it. It might have meant I’d be driving a 1980’s green Satarn with no rear view mirrors and manual windshield wipers…. But I would have done it!

@lavenderdragonfly23 cars are so overrated. My neighbor bought one of those garbage bin-like trucks and what a gorgeous huge unheated ruby that could have been.

That's 100% my guess!

If this were sizeable I’d be tempted. Center stone est. .85, E-F, $2995. Size 5.25

I bought it! Confirming it was not the price you last saw LOL. I’m obsessed with antique Tiffany though, and this setting is exquisite and seems like such an amazing contender for an engagement ring. Except I wasn’t thinking about the fact that it would take something close to an eight carat OMC to fill that center!! I’m going to get it and see what might make sense.

I also won a second lot of two platinum and diamond Art Nouveau settings, which I bid on as a back up and accidentally won. Look how sweet those designs are! These hold around 7mm-8mm stones.

I’m not sure if I’ll keep all of them, but I suppose I have some searching to do in the meantime!

I also did some digging into this auction and it’s actually super fascinating. The owner was a philanthropist who collected everything from rare art to jewels for many decades. Most of the items haven’t seen the open market in over 30 to 40 years, and they’ve had about five different auctions to sell everything over the past six months. 100% of the proceeds from the auctions are going to charities close to the family’s heart. I love knowing that the money I spent is going to good causes - I read that this woman sadly lost her child to cancer many years ago. Here is the article for anyone who’s interested to learn more!

Anyway - open to any and all ideas about what to fill these guys with!!!

Those are amazing settings @twosanguinehearts ! Not sure what your budget is but a moonstone cabochon would be a budget friendly way to be able to wear the first one quickly and its period appropriate. Another option is faceted blue zircon, for the same reasons.

Omg, a really nice moonstone in that Tiffany would be AMAZING!

The antique Tiffany is amazing. I also love the one with the butterflies. IMO, a rich blue in 1, a rich green in the other, and a rich red in the 3rd.

Thank you for sharing! I will have to check out those auctions. I'm so happy you won the Tiffany, it's breathtaking! :kiss2: I'm not a huge fan of lab, but that would be an alternative in that size, if you don't want a colored stone in it. You could get a custom cut OEC.

I especially love the bottom one, and it might fit one of the two stones I'm trying to set... So if you're thinking of selling.....

So happy that another PS peep bought the Tiffany AND the two semi mounts that I was drooling over! They are all just stunning and will be even more so when holding the right center stones. I talked myself out of bidding on your two “ just in case” rings. I could never even dream about bidding on the Tiffany but ,honestly, really wanted the Butterfly Beauty ( my fantasy name for her). If she had been auctioned on her own, I probably would have gone a bit crazy bidding. Anyway, looking forward to seeing what you do with the Tiffany . Even a shirt button would look good in that setting!

Congratulations! You bought my two favorite things in that entire auction! The Tiffany, ugh… I sat there, with my thumb over the bid button and watched the the hammer drop and immediately regretted not buying it. Knowing a PS’er bought her eases my heart. Please take care of her, she’s truly an incredible piece… you definitely need to start a thread and keep us all posted. My dream was an aquamarine, but honestly the options are endless…

Now, that bumblebee setting… ADORE! I immediately thought, pink diamond melee in each of the bumblebee heads, with an incredibly warm/yellow oec, or a beautiful orange pinkish padparadscha sapphire.

No idea what I wojld do w this because the setting is insane. But I love tje center stone.

This looks like a jeweler cleaned the floor and found these crumbs and decided to make a white elephant gift, lol! It’s so weird, I think I would keep it as is, just for the pure joy in watching people’s expressions and try to figure out how to give a compliment

But if you can imagine just the marquise and maybe 3 pears on each side it would be so lovely

I think the 20% off at TRR would bring ring down to $1100. I’m not in the market but it’s pretty. And it looks like it needs a scrub.

Since we're on an antique Tiffany kick, I thought I'd share these two that are on my eBay watch list for no good reason cause I'm not planning to buy either one.

And now I'm thinking maybe I should look for an awesome antique mount for Maxine, one of the loose diamonds I need to set, so I can splurge on the custom setting for my other stone. If anyone comes across a really nice edwardian or art deco mount, more flowery than geometric, for a ~7.5 mm stone, please share!
