Someone grabbed my a$$ today...

Hi there -

It went better then expected. I didn't want to get this guy fired but I still was upset by it enough that I wanted him to be warned this kind of behaviour cannot happen. There is now a note in my file that I have reported this incident and the Head of HR has spoken to him and reiterated our policies to him. I saw him yesterday in the hallway and he gave me a nasty look...which is unfortunate...but frankly he should have thought of the consequences before he grabbed my ass.

I'm glad it's all over... thanks for all the help :)

waterlily - the drinks weren't impromptu work drinks they were planned official work drinks (early xmas drinks) so the policies do apply in this case it seems (maybe they apply regardless - I don't know)

Deia, you were brave to suck it up and report it. Well done.

Thank you swimmer, I still keep wondering if it was the right move for me (which really should be a concern but alas the victim can end up being the culprit (if he had gotten fired, people would eventually know why and lots of people would definitely have a (negative) opinion about that and towards me). But it's done now so I should just relax and stop wondering...it's just how I am though, I overanalyse everything.

Glad it went well! Not smart of him to give you any sort of "looks" period, if he has a brain - eyes forward!

I guess I just don't understand the term "work drinks" lol! What does that mean? You had drinks AT work? Or you went to a bar with coworkers after work?

Waterlily - when I say work drinks I mean drinks at a bar with colleagues. In this particular instance they were planned and "official", and no it wasn't in our office lol.

I don't think it matters whether it was at work or not. Inappropriate and unwanted behaviour towards another coworker/subordinate is inappropriate and unwanted.

If a teacher grabbed a young student's a** after bumping into each other at a mall, can the student not report it to the school?

Simiarly, if a coworker was harassing/stalking a fellow coworker outside of company time, I'm sure an HR manager would at least like to know - and give a warning to the harasser, especially since it pollutes the work environment. HR's advice to the victim might be, "go to the police", but still...

Deia - I wish you the best at work. Just continue to stand tall. You didn't ask for this - and I hope any gossipy nosy-bodies, if there are any, stop for a moment and think about how they would feel if this happened to their daughter or niece. You were really brave to do this. Just keep remember that you did nothing wrong. Anyone with any real sense will realize that too.
