Oh pandora, I read about Mr''s pooping in your other thread...I''m sorry it hasn''t improved at all, lol !Date: 12/19/2008 10:18:51 AM

I own two of these critters and trust me, you probably DON''T want one!
My female ''Lego'' is super-clean and litter-trained, and normally very sweet-natured but she does bite - and hedgehog bites are nasty (to the bone and leave bruises and teeth-marks for days) especially as they hang on.
My male ''Mr Sticklebrick'' is a totally sweetie, but oh how I wish he would learn to use a litter box... instead he just poops on his wheel and keeps on running... and boy can these babies poop! And it smells terrible!
They need a BIG cage, each has to be housed separately, they tend to be awake between 11pm and 4am, so you will be kept awake by the wheel running if you don''t have decent soundproofing.
I definitely wouldn''t ever recommend them for kids - they never really become tame and they''re not very cuddly! On the otherhand, I do adore mine although we won''t have anymore.
Mr Sticklebrick loves my husband and likes to snuggle up inside his shirt - fine once he''s actually snuggled, but a bit spiky with claws and prickles beforehand. The other thing he likes to do is stand on his neck with his front paws half way up the back of DH''s head. Then he sucks his hair and tries to yank it out - all with horrible squelchy noises. Very funny to watch!
ETA: The one in the photo you posted is definitely a little boy

I have a hedgehog!! Everyone thinks that I am crazy for having one as a domestic pet. He''s a hot mess though - eats and bites everything in site. It is fun to let him run around outside though. Our first one was a girl (Brilla) and was much easier to litter train but he (Harley) will not train. We''ve tried for years.
I''d love to see a pic Danielle if you have time !Date: 12/20/2008 12:28:40 AM

They are illegal in the state of California too (didn''t sop us)
They are adorable! They actually sell a hedgehog food at the pet stores here but we supplemented with fruits. Ours liked grapes.
I had a little girl years ago and YEAH, it''s NOT fun cleaning off DRIED AND CAKED ON poo off of wheelsDate: 12/19/2008 10:18:51 AM

Just out of interest, I looked it up and hedgehogs are illegal in Australia
I guess the closest thing we have is the native echidna, or 'ant eater' ..not nearly as cute... And also not allowed as pets as are protected..
ETA: looking at this image again, I'm thinking geez we have some weird animals here, lol....Its got hands and all...strange, doesn't anyone else think??
