Just a fun thread to talk about songs that remind you of friends or loved ones. Can't remember if this has been done before, but if it has, it's been awhile.

One of my old high school pals passed away today and I was remembering songs we used to listen to as we drove around town together, killing time, when gas was still $1 or less! A few of our favorites were:

Killing Me Softly--remake by The Fugees
Lover--Sonia Dada

My college roommate loved Boston's "More Than a Feeling," even though it was an "old people's song" by the time we lived together, but every time I hear it now I think of her.

What songs remind you of people you knew in the past, or present? I'm always amazed at how music evokes certain recollections and am interested in hearing your stories!

When my friends of over40 years get together we always play/sing Forever Young by Rod Stewart, and then we play Moody Blues stuff.

"Take Me Out to the Ball Game" always, always, always makes me think of my dad. I remember sitting on his lap as a kid, watching the Red Sox on TV, and he and I singing it together. My dad is still with me, thankfully, but he lives pretty far away from me. There are times when I'll be at a game and I'll hear it, and it'll make me tear up a bit.

Pretty much any Indigo Girls song reminds me of my best friend from HS, because we took a few road trips and sang their songs over and over again.

The song "Linger" by the Cranberries reminds me of a good friend from college, because she tried to sing it to us one day (like, "hey guys, have you heard that song "Linger"? It goes like this...") and she got the melody so, so wrong, it was comical. To this day, whenever the group of us gets together, one of us will do her version of it and we crack up.

I only have a couple:
1) the horse with no name song from I think America???
When my husbands parents, my husband and I were driving to a wedding in outerbanks NC about 5 years ago, that song came on. It was a song my FIL loved, and all of us were kind of quietly singing along to the song. It was a great moment, and he died about a year later very suddenly, so that song is always tied to that for me.

2) Seal's kiss from a rose...
in HS that was popular and my friend Jeff thought the words were a kiss from the rose on the brain. And it has ever since stuck and been sometihng we mocked him mercilessly for.

DF, Nights in White Satin is my absolute favorite song! Saw them in concert last at the Meadowlands in NJ in the 1980s and am going to see them again in November in Atlantic City!

BTW, I am also a huge Kinks fan.

"I Go Back" by Kenny Chesney always reminds me of my college best friend. And I know she uses it as her ringtone for when I call. It was very popular the summer after our Sophomore year in college and it and "Whiskey Girl" by Toby Keith came on pretty much every time we were in the car during my week-ish long visit to her hometown.

"Make Me Lose Control" by Eric Carmen reminds me of my sister and my mom...when we were very little kids, it was the only song we were allowed to jump on the bed to, and my sister put it on my wedding prep playlist...so we jumped on the bed with our hair and makeup all done before leaving for the church!

Those are the first two that come to mind...I'm sure I'll come up with more!

Paradise by the Dashboard Light (meatloaf) reminds me of days long ago, living in my apartment, playing euchre with friends. We'd stop everything and do the chorus!!! Fun!!

Light My Fire by Jim Morrison was my class song in High School. They played it at the 20th reunion. :)

Soo Cool, I love "Nights in White Satin," too!

Well this cool fun loving Aunt I had loved the song una Paloma Blanca http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RP3sV-YMRw&feature=related

Another Aunt who passed, just a beautiful person inside and out liked Sara (her name) by Straship http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQLcIG11lxc I actually get chills everytime I hear the song.

for some reason Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole Somewhere over the Rainbow reminds me of my beautiful boys I love so much http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1bFr2SWP1I It is just so sweet like my little guys

Monnie I am sorry for your loss.

Monnie, I'm sorry to hear of your friend's passing.

These aren't exactly sentimental examples but they're who I think of when I hear a songs by some of my favorite artists from college.

One of my college roommates and I have lost touch but whenever I hear Hootie and the Blowfish and Alanis Morrissette's songs, I think of her. We graduated in '96 and they were HUGE at the time.

I think of a few other college friends when I hear Pearl Jam, specifically "Black." Love that song.

Whenever I hear Stevie Nicks sing Landslide it makes me think of my mom. She has always said that was my song for as long as I can remember. Dream On by Aerosmith also reminds me of her because she LOVES Aerosmith and there is a picture that she has up to this day of me being about 4 years old, wearing old school headphones, a rust colored velour shirt with jordache jeans singing along to Dream On.

Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Conner always reminds me of my high school friend Megan. We lost touch years ago and I would hear it and be a little sad. We have recently found each other on facebook, but it isnt the same.

Cant let you go by Fabolous reminds my of a very fun summer with a special guy.

Your Song by Elton John is my song to DH

I remember someone saying many years ago that the music you listen to is the soundtrack of your life and it totally is. I can remember where I was and who I was with with nearly every song from the past.

Hole Hearted by Extreme has made me think of my older son since before he was even born. He's not really speaking to me right now following events after my divorce so now the song makes me really sad. He'll be 21 this month.

2 songs I associate with my daughter - Brown Eyed Girl and Trace Adkins "You're Gonna Miss This"

I never hear our wedding song or our first dance song, but when I do--- its 1985 again!

edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros "home" reminds me of DBF
any songs by the carpenters remind me of my mom and dad because my mom loved to play her songs all the time and dance around with my dad when we were younger.
