I am planning to go on my first dress shopping trip soon and I don''t really know where to start. In southern cal, i have heard good things about palos verdes bridal and mon amie but I think mon amie would be too overwhelming for a first trip. Any of you gals have any suggestions?

Thanks!

hey :-)

i have not heard good things about mon amie. Too snotty, too overwhelming. i''ve heard this from a number of people :-(

lili bridal in tarzana is awesome (i''m biased i got my dress there. haha). go for the first appointment and it''ll be great. i went at 10 a.m. on a saturday and it was perfect. they are not pushy! it''s great! tell thema budget and they will tell you where to look. the dress i got they wanted me to pay $1800 for it. I walked out with it for under $1300 ;-)

pebble''s in woodland hills is supposed to be good.

jinny''s in huntington is a favorite of most.

this is a good link for you for resources. good luck!!!

I''m not sure where you are located, but I''m in Orange County, so I can only give you my opinions of the places I went in my area. As for Mon Amie, I didn''t find it overwhelming at all. I thought everyone there was very nice, and not overly pushy. Plus, I think they have the biggest selection of any place down here. My sister actually bought her dress there.

I also went to The Wedding Day in Fountain Valley and Jinny''s Bridal in Huntington Beach. I went to them more than one time each, and I have to say they are kind of hit and miss. They both have beautiful selections, but the quality of the people working there is not always the best. Sometimes they are helpful, somtimes, not so much. Of the two, I think The Wedding Day is much better.

I actually bought my dress at Saks Fifth Avenue in South Coast Plaza. I would definitely not recommend that as a place to go to look at dresses for the first time, as they don''t have racks for you to browse through. You basically go in and tell them what you are looking for, and then they pull things that they think will match. But it is hard to know what you are looking for until you have tried dresses on.

Okay, I hoped that helped a little bit. Good luck!

Alfred Angelo, either in Beverly Hills, Lakewood, or Huntington Beach-good selection, good prices, nice staff.

Mon Amie was actually fine, just make an appointment with them before going.

In Torrance, there''s Brides of California. I just browsed, but didn''t try anything on. They seemed nice though, and had a good selection.

I didn''t like Castle for Brides in HB, they were unhelpful and had a somewhat dated selection.

How timely, I just had a very similar thread recently!

Just this Mon-Fri, I went to (in this order):

1. Marylinn's Bridal & Tuxedo (Pasadena)
--Lots to try, though heavy on the ballgown side.

2. R-Mine Bridal Couture (Glendale)
--Smaller shop, less overwhelming, also heavy on the ballgowns. If you're looking for a ballgown, this is a great place, but I wasn't... so I came up dry here.

3. Jobyna's Bridal Shop (Glendale)
--Good variety, but overpriced (I ended up finding THE dress there... then finding it for ~30% less elsewhere). This is also the only salon where I didn't feel very welcome.

4. Renee Strauss For the Bride (Beverly Hills)
--Lots of higher end designers and fabrics, more variety than #1&2, most expensive o the salons I visited

5. La Soie Bridal (Torrance)
--This is where I found "THE dress" (more on that in a soon-to-come thread) for much less than Jobyna's. I felt like this salon was much more reasonably priced, and had the greatest variety of TYPES of dresses. I think it would be a great place to start because you can try a bit of every style, if you're not sure where to start.

If you have specific questions I'd be glad to help

Oh, and here''s a thread I started on theknot''s LA board asking for recommendations, and there are lots more than I listed

Depending on where you are and what you''re looking for, I liked Deborah''s Bridal in Upland. It''s right off I-10 near the Ontario Mills mall. I bought my dress there 6 years ago, and my SIL got hers 4 years ago, but I''m sure they''re still there. They had a good selection, including some really expensive ones done to the $500 range. And next door is their clearence room where they sell off the samples. I ended up getting my dress there since I''m a sample size, and I only paid $350 for a Mori Lee in perfect condition.

Thanks for the suggestions girls! Musey, your dress is gorgeous!

I am going on my first dress trip today to Jobyna''s because it is very close to my mom''s house and she made an appointment. I''ll let you all know how it goes!

Have fun!!
