I've seen a few threads on this but I can't seem to find 'em, sorry!

I honestly don't think halos are THAT big of a trend right now. I see very few in real life. I think if one were to nail down a 'trend' for right now, it would be pave and/or shared-prong eternity settings and bands. BLINGY sets. Halos sort of fit into that, but I think it's not necessarily halos in and of themselves.

I wouldn't worry about your ring going out of style, unless you're (the proverbial 'you', not YOU) worried what other people think of it. Most people will always love their ring/set because of the symbolism it holds and because it's theirs, not because it's not out of fashion.

ETA: My mom has a ring from 1975 that is VERY specifically free-flowing '70s, and she still adores it.

Besides, things go in and out and back into fashion. What''s popular now will be popular again in 30 years or so (and was popular 30 years ago, and 30 years before that). Trends are cyclical, if for no other reason than that there aren''t all that many options.

If you think Halos are a current trend...look at any antique, vintage, or estate dealer''s website. While the style may be slightly changed this is certianlly a style that has come full circle and most likely will again. If you think cushions may be dated then why do OMC''s remind me so much of cushions???
Word. I have an OMC and have to tell everyone it''s a cushion, because noone besides PSers would know what the hell an OMC was!

I think just like fashion, ering styles go round and round. I mean, who thought legwarmers and skinny jeans would come back?

Haha thats the first thing I was thinking when I read the initial post!

I think there are def obvious "trends" certain years. Yellow gold use to be the "norm" with engagement rings like in the 80''s-early 90''s as well. However now, you RARELY see any. I am sure at some point, platinum will go out again, and yellow gold will be back. Same with all the "less common" cuts now. Honestly, though....as long as the bride personally loves her ring, and its her style, screw "trends".

I have a plain RB solitaire, but I adore it! I always see women out there with awesome designs (halos, micropave shanks, fantastic fancy cuts, three stone, etc) but somehow my ring always manages to make me giddy when it catches the light.

FI and I were actually talking today at lunch about how the diamond prices have come down a bit lately. He offered to let me "lose" my ring and get whatever I want with the insurance...but I LOVE my ring! I can''t imagine wearing anything bigger (I have a 1.5 carat) or different in any way. I''ve stared deeply into my ring for many hours and can now see the arrows without straining, they just catch the light...

I''ve had many of the "classic and timeless" remarks and while I know it''s definitely been done, RBs have really never gone out of "season"

I change my mind every other day! I''d love a sapphire center stone with a halo of tiny diamonds. B-E-A-utiful!

Who can forget when "jackets" as wedding bands were the coolest thing!?

I have to say I agree with everything musey said and how she said it. Whatever ring you get, be proud always: the symbolism of the time and era it was received in will attach itself to the ring and become a proud part of it, that you will always remember.

Although I agree there are some styles are trends, I think all diamonds are always "in style." Halos were always in, although especially popular today. If you look at antiques though, they are mostly halos. Also, you can never go wrong with a solitaire, regardless of the shape of the diamond. I do think a RB is probably the *most* timeless, but cushions have also been around forever!

Yup, like the other ladies, I too say get what you love and just rock it out!

I personally want a round in a Mark Morrell setting which I don''t think has a certain era look to it, but who knows? Maybe someday people will think so. Even if they do, though, I can''t imagine falling out of love with my ring (well, what I hope will be my ring anyway

). It is perfection to me.

I have a couple of antique/vintage rings. I don''t think they''ll go out of style. They aren''t really in style, but if they are sought after now, 60 years later, I think they''ll still be sought after in another 20 years.

I''ll just say that my gma''s ring was an OEC that was popular in the 20''s (with two baguette sidestones)... and now its popular again :)

I don''t think it''ll ever go out of style. Mine, same style, is thought to be 1940s. There aren''t a ton around, but you always find them on antique sites and Cartier and Harry Winston do it and have done forever. Very classic style!
