My office is being recarpeted today so I"m working from home which means I''m catching up on all of my daytime TV and I saw an interview/story that I thought you guys might get a kick out of. One of the other threads has been discussing dance lessons vs no dance lessons vs a big chereographed dance etc and while I know there''s no way I could convince Nate to do a full on performance, and I''m generally one to tend towards a more traditional first dance; I''ve gotta admit this video had my laughing my butt off: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ImBaVm7K6Do

So what do you guys think? Technically it combines the best of both worlds, traditional and modern...anyone interested in doing this sort of dance? hehe

I am totally itching to do a dance like that! It would be soooo much fun! Still thinking about it, though...I can''t decide!

When Nate and I were trying to decide between a DJ and a live band, he was leaning towards the DJ because he would rather hear the original version of his favorite songs rather than someone else''s rendition. He also knew the band I liked wouldn''t play classic wedding songs; his example being "Baby got Back." (thereby guaranteeing that I will never let him select the music for our reception hehe) I HAD to send him this video today and while he LOVED it apparently he is "not good enough of a dancer or tasteless enough" to recreate this performance :P

There are a TON of similiar videos on youtube though and it has really got me thinking about how much fun this sort of dance could be! Of course we''d probably want to tone it down (not so sure about the butt slapping or booty shaking in public) but our guests would get such a kick out of it!

Perhaps I just need to wear him down ;)

LOL! This video is so popular right now. I posted it on here, then TGal, and now you...AND I''ve gotten two emails with the video in it from two people who do not know eachother at all.

I heard that the today show is trying to get them on (was it the today show? might be a different show). Anyway, that couple is such an inspiration. I wish I had the guts to do it!!!!

They had them on the Today Show this morning and the hubby seemed almost embarassed...it looks like so much fun though.

This video lead me to other videos of people breaking into the robot, doing Michael Jackson''s thriller, one couple in the UK even re-enacted the entire last scene from Dirty Dancing!

The goof in me is SO tempted to do something similiar but I''m afraid Nate is a bit too shy for that :P

At least youtube is letting me live vicariously through others.

Heidi, I loved that video too! I WISH my FI had the dancing gene, but no luck. So....I may be even more off the wall and might just do a little dance with my 2 little nieces who are in dance classes. My 7 yr old niece already choreographs her own songs and really isn''t bad! I thought people might get a kick out of it. After I mentioned it to her, she called me as soon as she got home (10 min later) and already had the song and steps planned out! Whether or not I can keep up is another story. I''ve been told I have to allow for "lots of practice"!

Winston...
I was thinking of perhaps trying to talk my 'maids into doing something similiar...nothing like a fun, girls rule sort of song and dance routine. In a way that's like having the best of both worlds....there's the traditional, romantic, special first dance with the groom, and a louder, more kickin demo by the ladies of the day to get the party started.

What song did your niece suggest? I can only imagine how thrilled she is to be such a big part of the excitement :) You'll have to keep us posted on your plan!

That was fun! I've been browsing through the other first dance videos, and I love the ones that copy the dirty dancing song! I just wish I could get over my shyness to be able to do something like that

FI might actually go for it if I had the guts to do it, but I think I'd go red in the face and run away! hehe.

ETA: This one is probably the best one out of the ones I watched! So fun!! Dirty Dancing First Song at Wedding I also really admire the brides who did the dance in their traditional dresses, that must've been difficult to do with all that extra fabric, I would've fallen on my face!

My best friend sent this to me and declared that she would be doing something similar for her wedding (We''re both planning our weddings now so we have to "call" something if we don''t want the other to copy since many of our guests will be the same). However, now that it''s been circulated all over the place, seen on Ellen and Today Show etc... she''s rethinking it because it won''t seem so original after everyone has seen the video.
