Have you guys seen the spinel book from Vladyslav Yavorkskyy and Richard Hughes?

Pretty cool!

This is somewhat old news, but it's new to me, and probably to some other folks, so I figured I'd post anyway.

I love this quote:
"in 1998, I began collecting gray spinels and today find more pleasure in their subtle nuances than even in some of the more richly colored varieties."

Reminded me of Freke and the others who've found joy in these weird and special stones.

HAHAHAHA!!!! Thanks Velouria. I should probably get a copy of it someday.

I mean the book itself is the cost of....
a gray spinel.

BUT, I do think it's probably very beautiful and worth it, especially to support the spinel cause, if that makes sense, not to mention the labor that went into it.

Ok, true confessions... I have this coming to me:

I really don't know what to expect, but I figured I'd pull the trigger and experiment.

I own that book, and while it has the most beautiful photos of gemstones, it's primarily a coffee table book. Don't expect a Richard Hughes " Sapphires and Rubies" type of book. It's not really informative at all, which is a bit disappointing because I was always hoping for a spinel book the caliber of a Richard Hughes book. This one was not meant to be, but if you like pretty pictures, then it does the job.

I have this spinel book. Agree with TL. There are lots of beautiful pictures of spinels in many colors, but not much content. The chapter written by Richard Hughes on history of spinels is quite interesting. He wrote about famous historical spinels including the Black Prince's ruby, which is actually a spinel.

A high quality eye candy book. Yes, I do wish it contained more information, similar to his Sapphire and Ruby book.

I have this book and it has beautiful pictures.

I miss Richard hughes' participation here.

Just purchased my first spinel. Couldn't resist any longer after seeing all of the gorgeous stones here.
Inspired by Freke, I'm getting a grey. Will do a thread upon arrival.

VelouriaL-that spinel is gorgeous! Mine is also from Jeff Davies.
