Spinel cost

I know you were looking at a larger one, but it seems overpriced. I have two dark grey spinel 1-2 ct in weight, and they were under $100 each. In my gut, I feel you could find a larger one with a cool undertone for a pretty good price.
@MissSarah I felt it seemed overprice too even though it was very pretty. I did find one over 3 carats with a teal undertone for 270. It does make me feel like I was being overcharged. Though I do realize value is different than price.

The stones I regret the most buying are the ones that were overly dark. I’d rather look at a sparkly pastel than have something that is black indoors.

Hi All, interesting post. I wish I saw this before I paid for my grey spinels. I just paid mine for $240/ct and my stones are 3.56ct in total weight. They are two perfect pairs with good clarity. Is that expensive or would you say it is fair price? I am totally new to spinels and any information about grey spinels are scarce as it only recently became popular.

Just seen this. The original topic post and am refering to that.

Pricing is all over the place. The high prices you were speaking of at first are brick and mortar retail prices. Generally, brick and mortar prices are 5 to even 10 times what you can buy from a source country dealer, or a good secondary dealer. Used to sale brick and mortar retail. Big American wholesalers are not much cheaper. Yes, the ones that you have to be in the trade to see prices or know someone to get in. Internet secondary dealers can be just as high or much less as I wrote earlier. There is no barometer. Precision cutters are also expensive, but not all of them as much as some. You're actually better off buying any stone that is not precision cut for much cheaper, then having it either totally recut or at least the pavilion. You'll still be ahead in the game moneywise if you do it this way & have just as large a stone if you buy right.
