I have a spinel with Certificate stating that it is from Myanmar and it’s origins from Namya. It’s slightly more than 2 carat. There is minimum information on internet except that it is rare and it’s collection item. Can someone tell me roughly what it’s worth today ?

What color is it? Spinel comes in many colors with some more expensive than others. Also, how clean is it? A flawless spinel will be a completely different price to a heavily included one. So basically, we'd need a lot more information than this. I would suggest hitting the 'Report' button at the bottom of this post and asking admin to move this whole thread over to the colored stones forum, as they really know their stuff over there.

Good luck!

PS And a truck load of photos would be helpful.

Thank you for your suggestion. Let see if I can repost under coloured stones. It glow like Jedi. Apology I can’t share the certificate

Ask mods to move this to Coloured Stones forum for more answers. Suspect best way to get evaluation is via GIA appraisal.

I have Guild certificate. I know that GIA certificate will be similar to Guild. And they will not provide any assessment in value.

Its super hard to say as it depends a lot on the inclusions, and potential treatments. If it is eye clean (like not just that the glow masks the inclusions, but that genuinely you cant see any) then I would send it to AGL for a pretige report with origin. The guild lab report unfortunately isnt enough. The origin will add considerably to the price if it turns out to be untreated and eye clean.

Thanks for your response. The Guild certificate mentioned that it is no indication of treatment and origin Namya. By the way, spinel cannot be heated due to its hardness. Only ruby and sapphire may be heated.

I know its not common, but I was under the impression it was still possible. Also you get other treatments like oiling -- so youll have to get a proper lab report anyway. The other one to check properly is inclusions -- these are going to impact the price pretty dtamatically. Origin is difficult to assess so almost no one will take the guild report that seriously on that point. Bottom line is that youll have to get it checked properly, otherwise its not going to sell as top grade namya material. People pay a premium for good quality namya material, but only if theyre pretty sure that this is what theyre actually getting. For a stone like this an AGL prestige report with origin would probably be the right way to go.

But if its got a decent # of inclusions this becomes defunct -- as its not top grade no matter what you do. Also if youre just collecting then id skip this part and set it in something sparkly to enjoy.

Hardness has nothing to do with heating. Spinels are not typically heated because it's thought that heating doesn't actually improve spinels' appearence.

That.

Also I am of the impression that anything 2 ct and below is fairly available. If you have a 4 ct Jedi spinel then it’s quite collectible.

Namya ones in the hot pink they are known for, above 2 ct and clean, are fairly rare. They are also limited in supply. I've been told in Myanmar they easily fetch us3k up or carat, though I would not know if that's a hyperbole on the part of the trader ;)
