SS Demantoid

Wooohooo

I'm exciting about it. I also bought a demantoid recently, and would love to see yours!

here is a picture of the underside, no big belly here! The cut on this stone is quite nice. Anyway, I just wanted to demonstrate the huge dispersive quality of demantoid with one of the pavilion facets 8-)

here is the front

here the demantoid looking minty fresh, who knew??

What a sparkler! I'm sure the pale colouration really allows the demantoid to look very diamond like...think green diamond! :naughty:

Thanks OTL, its one of those type of garnets (my birthstone) that I've been meaning to get an example of. Is there a thread for your new purchase?

Thanks Chrono! Yeah that is what I was imagining while it was in the shipment phase hehehe I agree that the lighter tone/saturation is key to allowing the dispersive quality shine, I don't think I'd be as happy with a more saturated stone. A pity that demantoids are such soft stones!

Wow. that is a really pretty stone! Both vendor's photo and yours!

It's on the way...I hope it looks really good!

That is a beauty! What a great find. Do you have plans for it yet?

Beautiful ! Demantoids are so much fun. The nice ones throw little color parties all by themselves.

I have two. One is just for the cool horsetail inclusion; otherwise it does not do much. The other is a really well cut, hang on - 3 mm. round (size is not all that matters) that does colors like blinking plugged-in multi-colored Christmas lights.

Do tell us how you are going to set it? Yellow gold?

Nice Namibian demantoids show a minty coloration. Very unique gem, and beautiul.

Pretty! I've never seen one that blue! It really does look like a natural blue diamond!

Beautiful garnet, love your photos.
May I ask how do you upload photos from your iPad? Do you transfer the photos to your laptop first?

Pretty stone and a unique color (from what I've seen) for a demantoid. congrats! :appl:

That *is* a beautiful stone! Looks well cut (from what I can tell...) and the light dispersion is awesome on that one shot!! Great find!

Love garnets of all colors! This one is very pretty!

I learn something new from PS every day. I have obviously not seen good Namibian demantoids, as the ones I've seen are typically an almost olive green. If I saw one that was minty, without any brown modifier, I would absolutely jump.

SS: your demantoid is very handsome.

Thanks! I will admit this is one of the most difficult stones I've ever photographed. If only I had my old FujiFinepix F30 that camera really did so well with dispersive stones.

Thanks JF, sadly no I do not have plans since gold/plat is SOOOO $$$ its hard to justify setting anything yet. Hopefully when the economy recovers then people will feel confident in monetary instruments again (gold prices fall) and the gold can be put to "better" use as rings, pendants etc :naughty:

I'd love to see the multi-colored Christmas lights of your demantoid :) I am leaning towards yellow gold (when the stone eventually gets set)

Hi TL, thanks for your comment, this was the first time I saw any demantoid that remotely resembled a mint coloration and the temptation to get it was too much :halo:

I wish I could do it straight from the iPad, but as you correctly surmised, I have to email the photos to myself first then upload via a computer. There may be an an app that can do it but I don't have one, sorry. Thanks for the compliments on the garnet and the photos... its not an easy gem to capture!

Thanks, I learned something new too! And a little additional tidbit is that this stone does NOT glow orange under UV lighting unlike its grossular cousins from Merelani (and other parts of Africa).
