Okay, I''m looking to see if anyone else has ever had this problem. My FI has this RHR that I gave her years ago. It has ten .02 stones in it. Well a few weeks ago one worked its way loose. So we took it back to the jeweler who put a new stone in and cleaned/polished it at no cost, very cool since its about 4 years old.
So about two weeks go by and the same exact stone falls out again. This time they charged us $40 bucks, whatever, I was a little upset because I faulted workmanship and figured it should be done for free again.
Now last Friday the same stone fell out again, which got me pretty PO''ed, the same stone!!! So we brought it back and again with the $40, only this time they put in a stone that is sooooo much lower in color that it really stands out as being yellow. The rest of the stones are G''s so this has got to be around a K or an L. It just looks really bad. So this time I brought the ring in myself (verses FI who can be a pushover;-) and they told me if I wanted another G put in it would cost me even more!!! I just didn''t get their reasoning, they said it must have been abuse. The whole ring only cost me around three or four hundred bucks four plus years ago, did diamonds double in price since then? Needless to say I just walked right out and wouldn''t be going back anytime soon. I feel they should fix the mistake for free, I mean I would have gladly paid the money the first time around since FI loves the ring and never takes it off, but to charge me more to put back what was originally there got me mad. Should I call the owner and demand they fix it or do you think he''ll side with his repair guy. I almost feel like popping that one stone out it looks so bad..........

There is a grey area with who is responsible on lost stones and replaced stones which later fall out. In truth, insurance coverage, if you had any, would likely cover the $40 charges, but one might ask if it is worth the aggravation to make a formal claim.

$40 is not the least costly price to get a replacement, so some other place may do a better job and even charge you somewhat less. I''d suggest you shop around for a different firm that you feel better about. The design may be partly at fault for losing or loosening stones. Its difficult to be sure with a stock photo.

I hope you can find a better place to get the work accomplished.

Thanks OldMiner.
I did pretty much give up on them. The item isn''t insured, I consider it more a "throw away" piece. Although FI does wear it everyday and she has quite a few other RHR''s to pick from so....... It''s just not worth insuring though. I just don''t get how they give me the right stone for free plus the cleaning they did is way better than the US she does every other day or so. Then when it falls out again they charge me and give me a crappy stone. I could see them giving me that stone the first time since it was free, but after I paid for it twice already!! Plus I feel $40 is a bit high for a .02 stone, no matter the color.
