Suggestions for a round CS pair?

So... I don't have much experience shopping around for colored stones. But I have a lovely pair of earring settings in 18k yg from WF. They're leverbacks and they used to hold my .56 (each) ACAs which I then reset into studs. I don't want to sell the settings for scrap and they're just sitting in my box so I thought it would be nice to set them with an inexpensive pair of colored stones. That way they'll at least get worn.



Any suggestions? I'm really not looking to spend a lot of money - maybe 300 or thereabouts. There was an adorable ruby pair I saw on gemfix but it's sold. I am not picky about color. Thank you for your help!

Depending on now cheap you'd like to go, you could check out GemSelect, eBay, or ask vendors like Mastercutgems or Barry Bridgestock.

Minous, the diamonds that the settings held measured 5.3 x 5.3 with depth 3.3 mm. So I am looking at those sort of dimensions.

I would shoot for 4.8 mm to 5.3 mm. I am reluctant to go up to 5.5 mm unless you know the depth doesn't exceed 3.3 mm. Coloured stones are typically deeper than diamonds.

Since cs are often deeper, I would look to a slightly smaller diameter - do you know the maximum depth the setting would allow? Depending upon the material, you might find some cs which do not require as much depth as some others might. But I do believe its likely that depth will probably be your limiting factor.

If I were you, I would go for green sphenes; their dispersion is amazing. Ever since I've seen Davi's earrings, I've been coveting a pair of my own...

Thanks minousbijoux. I contacted an etsy seller who had a few pairs of cs that I liked... I have convo'ed with her asking her about the project and worst case if nothing she has will fit perfectly, I could have her source something for me.

I looked for sphene after I read your comment. Wowza! Pretty, pretty, colored stone. I have hazel eyes so I am sorely tempted
