You all were such a huge help with the pink sapphire ring I just had made, thought I would pick your brains on another project.

Thinking of stacking another daisy ring with my current one and wondering what stone for the center? The pink sapphire in my current ring has more of a glow to it since it is a bit sleepy so I'm not sure what stones would compliment that. Also it needs to be a durable stone since it will be worn a lot and no more than 5.5mm.

I actually found a tsavorite on Multicolour that is around the size I need and Portuguese cut but I have no idea about them so I'm attaching that info in case it's a promising stone. I also attached a pic of my sapphire ring to show the color it most often shows.

Thanks in advance!

If you want a durable stone, stick with sapphire. A periwinkle color, or light blue, or a medium purple....

The tsavorite looks nice as well, and I think the setting is protective enough. But tsavorite has a sharp brilliance and not sleepy at all. For a muted effect in green that glows, you can try a medium-toned Colombian or Afghan emerald.

Have you tried walking into a few local jewlers and asking to try on a second round halo next to your current one? And seeing if you can try a couple of different coloured stones as well? Just to check how it looks if you stack two stones with different levels of saturation (and/or contrasting colours). Also to get a feeling for what happens if the halos don't sit flush (i.e. how do you feel about gaps left between the two halos).

Seaglow thanks for your suggestions, initially I was going to stick with sapphire in those colors you listed but then I started looking at other gems and well, you know how it goes lol!

Love emeralds for that glow they have but unfortunately I think they are too soft, so sapphires it is for me, luckily they come in a rainbow of colors :kiss2:

Qubitasaurus, first off that is a great name. I haven't gone into any stores yet but we do have a lovely family owned store in town I can visit. My current ring is a stacking ring, if I go ahead with this I would have the same person make it so they would sit flush. Just in the thinking stages for now but if I find a great sapphire will have to jump on it.

Under MOH's scales, emeralds are harder than tsavorites. Emerald at 7.5-8 and tsavorite 7-7.5.

What makes emerald tricky though are the inclusions which makes them not so durable. But below a carat, you can find a nice clean one and that should be fine. :)

Ah okay, see I learned something new about emeralds. You always hear about how soft they are and how careful you need to be with them. Good to know, thanks Seaglow!

Great, it is lucky that they are designed for stacking:D. I would definitely raid the local jewlery store. Just to get a feeling for what I liked, especially in regaurd contrasting saturations. There are some larger jewlers too like mauboussin which deliberately have stacking lines -- maybe google image searching advertisements for these will give some inspiration for good colour combinations. Also Yvonne's blog has several posts on colour combinations -- I think she is more interested in side stones and melee pairing but it probably works similarly for stacking rings.
