Elle-
One "solution" to your day pass problem is to consider resorts that have muliple sister locations within different price points.
The Riu and Moon Palace hotels are huge, but have about 5+ other resorts in the area guests could stay at (for cheaper, possibly) and then they would not have to pay for a guest pass to attend the wedding on the grounds of your resort. It''s a nice idea that guests could stay where they please, within the parameters, and not have to pay the extra amounts.

***The Karisma hotels are beautiful, by the way, they''ve been my favorite for a while - love all the beds and hammocks, etc. all over the resorts!

Just an FYI my brother just booked his wedding at moon palace spa and resort. I cant wait! We will probably stay at the aventura spa, which is a sister property and is adults only! All said in done it will only cost them around 5k!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are larger properties than my FI and I would choose to stay at, but they look very nice!
AG - I have friends that got married at Moon Palace and then we returned with them for a vacation a couple of years ago and loved it there. Their wedding so great and fun - they had a great wedding coordinator and everything was beautiful. Moon Palace itself was too big for us (Bryan and I) - just walking from our room to dinner, the bar, or the pool was a bit of a trek - BUT, we loved the resort in that the food, service, and drinks were far superior to any all-inclusive I've stayed at. So good that we stayed at another Palace resort for our honeymoon: Cozumel Palace, which was absolutely perfect for us. It was much smaller than Moon Palace, very close to downtown, there were fewer restaurants than at Moon Palace but food was really excellent (and nice presentation), the rooms were so nice. And the service was truly unbeatable - their employees are lovely and sincere people. Plus, we LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Cozumel... The other thing that amazed me about Palace resorts is that the rooms actually looked just like the pics on the website. I cannot say enough good things about Coz Palace!! I will be posting more on wedding and honeymoon later this week when I've got more time.

Elle ~ one thing I would recommend is checking into Palace Resorts or another All-Inclusive chain that has several resorts in the Yucatan as a possible solution to your day pass dilemna. I think charging around $70-$75 for a day pass is pretty standard but places like Palace resorts are cooperative in that if you are staying at one Palace resort location, you can visit any other Palace resort without paying for a day pass (although, I seem to remember that there may be a small fee associated if you are visiting from one of the smaller, not quite luxury Palace resorts in Cancun like Cancun Palace to one of the larger, really super nice resorts like Moon/Sun Palace or Aventura Spa Palace). Anyhow, just a thought!

In any case, I think Mexico is a fabulous place to get married - several of my friends have done it and they have absolutely zero regrets and would all do it exactly the same if they were to do it over. I was going to do the same myself if my grandpa been able to travel that far.

ETA: I see Jessa beat me to it - RIU is a good one to consider also, although I do not have any personal experience with their resorts.

Totally off subject - but - teebee - what a cool wedding website!!!

MsFlutter ~ Now why in the world did I refer to you as AG??? Sorry!! I must have some sort of post-wedding/honeymoon brain hangover thing going on!! I think that Moon Palace is probably about 45 minutes away from Aventura Spa Palace? I will have to ask my friends if they remember - on our last trip to Moon Palace in May ''04 they spent a day at Aventura getting the royal spa treatment which they raved about. I''m thinking that Aventura is just a little ways south of Playa del Carman, which was just about 30 minutes south of Moon Palace, from my memory. We had also considered staying at Playacar Palace (in Playa del Carmen) which looked really nice, when we were unsure if Cozumel Palace would be reopened in time for our honeymoon (they sustained significant damage in Hurricane Wilma) but CozPalace opened just under 2 months before we got there. I really like Playa as well - still small and fun, and generally a more "homey" and mature atmosphere over that of Cancun, IMO.

I guess whatever hotel/resort you choose would just depend on your preferences. Moon Palace was perfect if you have no need or desire to leave your resort - and there is plenty to do for that to be completely feasible and utterly enjoyable. But I tend to enjoy walking around a town a bit and having the freedom to come and go without much planning - doing anything outside of Moon Palace was a bit of a chore and took planning. It all hinges on what makes a successful vacation and/or wedding!

Elle,

Here is another place you can entirely take over. I am going to check this one out too.

http://www.casablancasayulita.com.mx/index.htm

It''s air conditioned, has a big pool, and lots of options for guests.

I have the rate sheets for Playa Fiesta - depending on the season it come outs to about 650 - 900 per person. Too much for my friends!

Let me know if you want to see them.

Thanks!

I did not get married in Mexico, but DH and I honeymooned there. I loved it and it sounds like you are going to have a beautiful wedding there where ever you end up. I did want to mention Isle Mejures. It is a ferry ride from Cancun to a small 7 mile long island. There are a few condo''s there and a beautiful resort. It is like "Old School" Mexico there. Ver cool! Good luck and congrats.
