With the big game in season, here's a fun-facts article by Stephanie Schaefer of JCK about the Lombardi trophy.

http://www.jckonline.com/2013/02/01/7-facts-you-didnt-know-about-vince-lombardi-super-bowl-trophy

>I love that the original sketch was made on a napkin.
> Not disclosed here; the trophy is worth about $3,500

In another story I saw, for the first time ever, the Lombardi Trophy was delivered to New Orleans by FedEX air cargo this year.

Question: What if the NFL wasn't home?

> Would they leave it on the doorstep?
> With a neighbor?
> Or would they take it off to some Raiders-Of-The-Lost-Ark warehouse like they did with one of my packages last year?

They'd toss it into the bushes, breaking it inside, then send another person back in about 10 minutes to haul it out of the bushes and still claim it was delivered satisfactorily, to the recipient.

haha!

One of my co-workers and his wife bought some antique sterling flatware one time. It was delivered by UPS. They were not home. When they walked up to their front door, there was a sticky note that said "I hid your package around the side of the house behind the bushes. -- UPS" Fortunately, the package was still there when they got home, which was hours later.

A couple of years ago, I bought something online and this about a week before Christmas. My package was delivered by two guys wearing blue jeans, and driving a rented U-Haul truck.

In the city where I formerly lived, there was a UPS regional hub. Its customer counter insisted on opening EVERY package that customers presented at the counter to ship. They inspected the item(s) to see if it was what you said it was. And they'd make you repackage it to their satisfaction if they thought it didn't have enough padding or something. That of course went over like a lead balloon. The reason given for their Shipping Nazi act was: "There is just too much trouble with fraud at this shipping counter." I quit using UPS, there. LOL

Professionally we interface with people who choose to use both FedEx and UPS (ahem).

With that PC statement out of the way, I have personal UPS stories like yours - but the "I hid your package" note takes the cake! Nothing like a treasure map posted for thieves to read...

A story we laugh about here (nervously) is when my neighbor' had a UPS driver leave a box under the hood of his patio gas-grill. Supposedly there was a note left, but never found. Thankfully he's a scrub-before-you-switch-on kind of guy!

I'm reminded of this unfortunate moment.

Bummer.

Thanks Mr. P. You are always so good for a full on robust LOL!!!

What if the NFL were waiting for the delivery but had to go into a small room to take care of business and tied a rope to the doorknob so he could open the door upon arrival of the courier, so not to miss them? Anyone remember that thread??

Still cracks me up!!

Clearly it would never arrive when no one is home, because it travels with two escorts from the Hockey Hall of Fame...

...wait, there are other trophies people care about?

Vera, you had me laughing as soon as you surmised that the entire NFL could be gathered together in a "small room."

Clearly Lord Stanley's cup is afforded a different class of honor guard than the NFL's FedEx solution.
