Hello everyone! Hope your holidays are wonderful. My dear husband surprised me with a spectacular new stone for Christmas this year. Our 5 year anniversary is January 3rd, and I've been having the pricescope itch. Luckily for me he did all the work and popped a 2.0 carat GIA H SI2 (eye clean) excellent cut stone inside a jewlery box I had asked Santa for. Now the fun part begins with picking/designing a setting. I have been wanting a well done halo since before I got engaged. Already my sister and my mom have said "that's too much, it will take away from the stone". Now I know it's important to take opinions with a grain of salt. But sometimes it makes you second guess yourself. I know 2 carats isn't the largest stone out there particularly on my chubby size 8 fingers. And if a stone is well cut, it should rock it's setting no matter what... Right??? Perhaps my lovely fellow pricescopers could chime in some help on this...

I definitely vote for a halo!!!! If you look at my some of my previous posts my 2.04ct is set with a VC Emilya Halo and I LOVED IT!!!! It would have been my forever setting had I not upgraded.

Congratulations on your new stone. +1 for the halo.

Go for it!! do what *you* want to do and never mind what the other (?jealous?) ladies in your family are saying!! :naughty:

Listen to your heart - really - if you are craving a halo, IMO, get what you have been lusting after. You can see it now as a solitaire and it is a beauty --- but if you are going for impact, then halo will meet that objective!

Halo....Halo... HALO!

Another vote for halo. Settings, like diamonds, are very personal and subjective. What one person loves might be wrong for someone else. The great thing about diamonds is that they reflect what YOU like. Other opinions are secondary. That stone will look gorgeous regardless of the setting, but choose what you feel is best. There will be just as many people saying that a solitaire is "too small" or "not blingy enough". ;)

Thank you all for your replies! I have to say... I don't think there is any nicer online community than this!!! SB621 Your ring(s) are definitely a source of inspiration for me. I really love the idea of a "two sided" halo, not sure the correct term for that. However you don't often see many (I haven't seen one in the flesh), and I wonder if it's because it appears a bit bulky in person? I better start perusing some halo threads,

Cheers :)

Emilya would be great! Interesting diamonds on the side halo idea...

It is very pretty. :appl: Have fun picking out the setting.

What an awesome surprise!

I definitely vote halo. A 2 carat round in an Emilya is one of my favorite looks. As long as it is a very finely made halo it will compliment and not overwhelm your stone. Your mom and sister may be thinking of the clunky poorly proportioned halo settings that are pretty common out there and would probably not add much to your already gorgeous stone. Here's an example of a stunning delicate two sided halo:

I also love Singlestone's Art Deco halos.

Can't wait to see what you pick!!

Another halo vote here! I adore the Emilya halo, it would look fab!!!

Wow, what a nice surprise!!! I think you can definitely handle a halo with your ring size (or any ring size, for that matter!)! I love the Emilya because it is so delicate and does not look overdone. I do not like the diamonds on the side of the halo, personally. I think it makes it look more bulky and less delicate. The other look I like to increase finger coverage is a classic three stone ring. Either would be gorgeous!

you obviously don't need to be influenced by what your family is saying about YOUR ring, but perhaps they are visualizing clunky halo's that in fact DO distract from the center stone. Show them a few amazing examples from Pricescope and I bet they rethink their opinion.

Thank you for this link! I think most people I know IRL haven't seen a pricescope quality halo, thus perhaps their reluctance with them. I have yet to see an emiliya that I didn't like!!! It appears that this one is a round brilliant in a cushion halo? I do like this as well....hmmmmmm.... :)

I think I can handle a halo as well. It's unfortunate being on the larger size, because I do feel it makes my new stone appear smaller. So a bit more coverage without leaping up in the price department would be great. That being said, I do adore a classic solitaire such as the one in your avatar... It's simply gorgeous!!!! Good point on the side stones being a bit bulky or top heavy, I could see that being a problem. I'm thinking if the setting had a thicker band (perhaps 3 row pave), and "shoulders", or I would call it cathedral style, it may be a bit more proportionate....?

Agreed, I should know better. I suppose it's just easy to second guess setting ideas. I think I have 100 images I've saved onto my computer lol!!!! At Christmas dinner when I showed my 85 year old grandmama my new stone, who has an amazing collection, she suggested a "diamond guard ring". Must be an old term for a halo :)

Oops... No logos on photos in here I think...?

Halo

Wow, nice Christmas present!

What a beauty!!! Congrats.
A subtle halo would be lovely!! I vote for the Emilya.

Beautiful!

I think a halo would be great!

LOL!!!! Thank you ... I think taking time is very good advice. It would be my pleasure to keep everyone posted!!!

I thought this was interesting.... My hubby thinks I'm wierd, so hopefully the pricescopers don't think so too!!! I was trying to imagine what this would look like haloed, so I wrapped a few of my girls hairbands around the stone. It's like a nice frame on a canvass. To me really makes it pop! And for reference, the blue band on the 2 ct is less than 1 mm (so I doubt I could get a halo that small... Maybe a tacori 2620). The green band on my .9 ct is about 1.5mm. So for big size 8 fingers, looks like it's halo or bust lol!!!!

Ps sorry my hands are really gross I think I need to stay out of the dishwater!

Have no fear, we here at PS think what you did was perfectly normal! :D I did the same thing but I used tinfoil lol!

Congrats on such a wonderful Christmas surprise - your hubby could give mine a lesson hehe - I think a halo would look great!

I have a 8.25 ring finger and a 2.2+ ct stone so I know your dilemma. I vote halo! If you want to downplay the bling factor, opt for a plain band vs one with pave/diamonds. I've put this pic up in other postings so I apologize for the repeat, but a halo can make a stone pop!

Wow UrsTx... What a wonderful transformation  !!! Glad to hear of someone else who feels my pain. May I ask what size is your halo melee? I'm thinking a 1.5 mm would be just right, as I definitely need to get a bit of oomph going on here. So from my research I could bank on 1.5 mm halo totalling 3 mm of extra bling power?!?

Aw, thanks LBB! I went from a solitaire setting to the halo and am so glad I did, I'm really enjoying it - I think you will love the finger coverage and hand presence a halo provides!

Thanks for posting my thread UrsTx =) - and I continue to adore your ring!!!
