Okay. T-gal asked for it....

We had hamburgers a couple of days ago so I've been thinking about this.

Do you like sweet pickles? Dill pickles? Both?
What are the best foods to have sweet pickles with? What about dill pickles?

And mostly....
Do you prefer sweet or dill on your hamburger?

I love dill pickles. Love. Not a fan of sweet pickles.

When I was pregnant with my son, I wanted pickles with every meal. I craved hamburgers from month 5 on, so I ate a lot of burgers with dill pickles stacked high.

Dill. Sweet pickles disgust me. Just the thought.... :knockout:

I used to HATE dill pickles. Absolutely anything that was near them was contaminated and no longer considered food.

Then I discovered that a new bbq sauce we tried (really yummy) did NOT work well with sweet pickles and I was faced with having to reconsider dill pickles or eat a hamburger without any pickles :o
Well, I tried a few little slices and.... YUM!

So now I enjoy eating kosher dill pickles. But they have to be sliced. Never whole.
For just eating a pickle, I still prefer a sweet pickle.

Sausage with peppers & onions -- dill pickle
hamburger -- dill pickle
potato salad -- sweet pickle

What makes a pickle "kosher"? --- there are cloves of garlic in the brine. Other than that, they are just like any other dill.

dill for everything except potato salad - must have hearty chunks of sweet pickles. I don't know why, but it is a lackluster tater salad without 'em. lol

Mmmm. Dill for sure. Wish I had some right now!

Dill all the way baby! Not a big sweet pickle fan unless its in relish for a hot dog. Unfortunately, I like salty food.

Ditto.

Only dill pickles for me--sweet pickles make my stomach turn. This thread is making me want to go out and get a sandwich with pickles on it right now!

No pickles!!!! Only vidalia onions on my burger.

MMMMmmm. Potato salad. MMmmmmm.

FI doesn't like potato salad so I only make it once in awhile.
I don't like ribs (FI does).

So our compromise is that we make smoked ribs and potato salad -- he gets the ribs, I get the potato salad -- and neither of us wrinkles our nose at the other one's dinner and no one mentions the lack of veggies...
Seems reasonable.

I mix a bit of sweet pickle juice in with my mayo to thin it out a bit and add extra pickle yumminess.

Mmmmm.

Dill pickles for me, sure wish I had one right now!!! Sweet pickles= yuck!!

Dill only. Ever. Sweet pickles make me mad. I hate them.

I LOVE sweet pickles. So there.

I love sweet pickles, baby gherkins, midgets, etc. I love Bread and Butter pickles also, sliced lengthwise or crosswise, the "zestier" the better.

I also happen to love a nice dill spear but it has to be a light, natural green. I will not touch anything that has that unnatural shade of fluorescent green.

I don't eat hamburgers. I do, however, eat veggie dogs and there is a place called Naughty Dogs here where you can get a veggie dog, Chicago style with a pickle spear, and theirs are always a lovely, natural looking, chilled piece of happiness. Oddly, as much as I dislike the unnatural coloring in some dill pickles, I appreciate the street sign green sweet relish just as much as a good dill or sweet pickle.

Dill! Ive never been able to stomache the sweet ones.

love the dill pickles!!!

i love them so much that i need to post again about my love for dill pickles...on bergers(alot please)on sandwiches ,in potato and macaroni or pasta salads,in tuna and chicken salad and in tarter sauce!

l'm not a hater. l love all pickles. The crunchier and colder the better! :lickout:

I hate a pickle, sweet, dill or otherwise. I don't even want one on a plate flirting with touching my food! DH is the same way. He taunts me by putting his pickle on MY plate.

I LOVE dill pickles, and I always have. My favorite are Claussen's mini whole dill pickles. When I was a child I used to love going out to eat at The Bagel because they set out dishes with little whole pickles in the middle. My parents' friends still talk about how I used to eat two dishes' worth.

I eat pickles as snacks all the time. MMMMMM. I'll take a pickle over a chocolate bar any day. I'll eat pickles on burgers, or even in certain sandwiches. But mostly I like to eat them all on their own. I had a student whose family used to make their own pickles and she brought me several jars each year. Those were amazing.

I don't like sweet pickles at all. Blech.

ETA: I just reread this and realized I sound like Bubba from Forrest Gump: Whole pickles, speared pickles, pickle slices, pickle halves, mini pickles, pickle sandwiches . . . Haha.

ETA2: I just ate two Claussen mini dill pickles.

ETA3: Dogs love pickles, too! At least, mine always do. They know what's what.

Dill. Only dill. If a pickle is described as anything other than dill (sweet, bread and butter, those vinegary-type-pickles my husband seemes to love) I'll make this face --> :knockout: . Gimme the dill.

Love dills, all kinds, slices piled high on pulled pork, sandwiches, burgers, cream cheese wraps, mmmmmmm or sweet pickle chunks and baby dills just for snackin, nummy. And no fat!

Agreed. Although I actually don't care much for pickles ON my food. The flavor overwhelms the food. So always on the side for me.

Right now I just grabbed a jar of "Happy Happy Pickles" out of my fridge (they were in the welcome basket of my friend's Georgia wedding). They are sweet and spicy and delicious and totally unique and I am going to so sad when I finally run out of them.

OOOHHHH really now :naughty: haha just kidding!

I love pickles! I prefer the dill or zestier ones. But when I enjoy a nice peanut butter and pickle sandwich I find the sweet pickles go along with it better... and yes I do eat pb & pickle sandwiches! yumm

LOL

Shhhh.
I used to eat sweet pickles with vanilla icecream and homemade fudge sauce.
Shhhhh.

My mother turned pale the first time and asked if I was pregnant  -- nope. Just couldn't decide if I wanted icecream/fudge or pickles so decided to have both and well... :lickout:

Now all l want to snack on is some cold, crisp pickles and a tall ice cold glass of milk, and we're out of both. Aw, man. :(sad

ANY kind of pickle makes me vomit. Even the juice that seeps into my hamburger roll...I have to send it back and ask for another roll.

Neither! There aren't many foods I don't like, but pickles are one of them. I don't like the acidity, I think, because I've tried fresh, low-acidity pickles at restaurants and liked them.

OH! ls anyone here from Maryland? lf you ever visit Annapolis (which you should; it's lovely), stop by Chick & Ruth's Deli. They put out TUBS of Kosher pickles to munch on, like other places might have a bowl of peanuts or some other nibbles. Plus they do the planet's best milkshakes. YUM. Best place ever. :lickout:

DILL!

I'm from MD Gwen :)) not terribly close to Annapolis though. Anytime someone visited they always wanted crab, I was so sick of crab by the time I moved out to CA to live w/ FI.. now I miss it all over again!
