i know some of you just vomited in your mouth but I liked it so i bought it :P

i was on a bit of a self imposed shopping ban when i saw wildfish gems had 30% off so i had a look. oops. Originally US$820 I got it for US$550 and the very next day i got an unexpected bill for $500. talk about instant karma. So I thought might have to send it back but 10 days later I've forgotten about the unexpected bill, the stone arrives and its pretty. too pretty to send back.

"From our precious parcel of long-hunted Mahenges comes this mild padparadscha spinel. The hue is softer and more gentle than in some of that wild neon parcel. Set into a simple pendant or ring it is such a classic. For the romantic."

photos were taken today outside my front door under an overcast cloudy sky. hopefull the sun comes out tomorrow!
What i see IRL is different again from Ed's photo and my photos. very frustrating

So what are your thoughts on the stone. and ideas for setting? I'm thinking a simple bezel solitaire. we recently got quoted Au$450 for a 5mm 22karat gold wedding band by the family jeweller in india and I'm off to india in a week so I'm thinking i could put it in a 22k gold bezel while I'm over there? or would silver suit it better? or a rose gold?

It looks neon and almost pure pink in Ed's pictures but I know to expect that from his earlier pictures. Yours appear pink in some and orangish pink in others. That said, you love it and got it for a good price so that's all that matters. How does it look indoors? A simple bezel sounds divine and very fitting. I don't think silver will do the stone justice, nor rose gold. I think you have some different metals to play with, correct? Sit the stone in a pool of rose, white and yellow jewellery to see which one looks best and you'll have your answer. I think 22kt gold will be the prettiest.

I like it! Cheesy or not, people gave us pink sparkly heart shaped things as little girls (at least was the case for me), and things like that have a kind of nostalgic charm. I love the bezel solitaire idea too.

Tacky schmaky :knockout: I barely notice its a heart because the color is beautiful!!
I like Chrono's 22kt idea I think it will look amazing!
Congratulations - wear it with much joy & happiness!! :appl:

Not tacky, pretty! I don't see any orange on my monitor. I like the idea of 22k gold too. Should look great!

Hi,

I very much like the color. 22kt gold will look great.

I don't think I would ever call a heart shaped stone tacky. It signals young and cute and sweet to me. Sometimes it fits our mood.

Annette

So NOT tacky at all! I love it

I am a fan of heart shapes. It is very pretty and a great color.

It's gorgeous and will look amazing in a 22kt bezel!

It's fab. It will look gorgeous in bezel setting :P

I don't know why people put down heart shapes!!!! This is a gorgeous stone!!!!

Lori

Lovely stone Hippi. I think you're right people sometimes think the heart shape is corny but it looks so pretty on the hand. And I concur, color was first thing I noticed. I googled some images and saw some nice ideas: modified claddagh ring (hands, no crown), larger prongs made it look trilliant, etc. Can't wait to see your finished project.

I love it!! I think its a beautiful shape - well balanced - and the colour is beautiful!! It will make a beautiful ring - are you thinking of a bezel or a halo? I see a lot of halo'd hearts on the DBL site and I really love how they look... maybe you can start a HEART trend!!

However it is set, it will be lovely and I agree, that YG would be my preference as well.

Saw the stone on the Wildfish website and I loved it. Not tacky. I think 22kt yellow gold will look absolutely beautiful.

Lovely stone, and one can't go wrong with anything from Wild Fish IMHO.

Deep down I am a big romantic at heart, and have 3 heart shaped rubies to prove it.

I love pink/red stones, in heart shapes.

;))

Love the idea of a bezel pendant. I think it will really bring out the beautiful shape of the stone. And what a pretty colour!

It's the perfect color for a heart shaped gem! And I think that is the size that works perfectly as a heart as well! How is it going to be set?

It looks pretty, not tacky.

Very cute!

I think it's lovely, and it looks so much better in person than in the pic on the vendor's website! Can't wait to see it set.

Thankyou for your beautiful comments!

A little update:
I took this stone to india to have set in a simple 22kt bezel ring, but it the craziness of getting married in india i didnt get a chance to speak to the jeweller. Although i had mentioned it to my mil. I left all my jewellery behind with her as i didn't want to be responsible for it being a tourist in delhi or a honeymooner in the maldives. I got a bag of my jewellery back recently and the stone is missing. While in india we've had jewellery and clothes lost to thieves so when i mentioned this spinel to my partner he said 'please just drop it. I dont want to tell mum something else has been stolen. Cant you just buy another one?'

Fast forward a fortnight and mil mentions she has the stone!! Not just that but she has set it for me... (Oh no!)

I don't think i ever mentioned what i had planned and she has veeery different taste to me. I don't think i could reset it for fear of offending. So i can't wait to how its been set! Fingers crossed for a dainty 22k bezel. Show you soon :)

If you look at my past topics for one called my superbowl ring you'll see the last ring she had made for me. Id link it but i'm on my phone

Oh man. I am so glad no one tries to set my stones for me. I'm sure she thought she was being sweet, but geez. Good luck!

Oooohhh, fingers crossed it's bearable, hippi! Or do I mean wearable? Nice impulse, but jewelry is so individual, unless you really know someone's taste well, it's risky to set a stone without asking. I gather she's not a jewelry freak, or she'd know that. It might be fine, then yay! but may end up something you'll have to haul from the drawer when she comes to visit!

Looking forward to pics of your wedding -- I'm sure it'll be absolutely dynamite!! Maybe you can buy some fantastic gold pieces in India! :appl: :appl:

I'm an optimist and think it'll turn out fabulous with lovely intricate and strong Indian influence. :lickout:

Yike, that is the granddaddy of all rings! Let's hope she got it out of her system with that one. We'll hang onto Chrono's optimism!

   +1 to being optimistic!! maybe being with you and spending time, she was able to revise her jewelry setting plans?? like --- from superbowl to ... Stanley Cup ring??? lol!

I hope it is a setting you can wear and enjoy - she did do it out of the kindness of her heart, so she does get a 'point' for that! Maybe your DH new she had it and perhaps may have given her some ideas??? I'm trying to keep that whole "positive" thing going! :saint:

I think it's very pretty.
