We''ve upgraded my ring from a .51 to a 2.5. I decided for sentiment''s sake to get a very similar setting to my original ring and one that would match my wedding band. I was also afraid of what our friends would think when they saw it, so I thought I could sneak one past my friends. Now that I have my ring, I realize my friends don''t care and now wish I''d gotten a cushion cut. I don''t want to be ''that person'' so I won''t change it, but someone needs to talk me off the ledge. Maybe I just need to stop looking at pictures on these forums

PS I''m totally not fishing for compliments. I guess I''m wondering if anyone else has been in the same boat.

Here''s my new ring.

Hi athenaworth!
35.gif

I''m going to compliment your stunning ring anyways! SO GORGEOUS! I''m a round stone lover and think there is something so classic about it, so I totally love your ring.

I know what you mean about looking at pictures on this forum. I had to stop about a month ago because I was so close to having the money for my diamond studs that the urge was brought on by PS that I was afraid that I would see something else and change my mind and talk myself right out of my studs. But I hung in there and get to go tomorrow to pick them out.

But your new stone and ring looks amazing, a real keeper. Congratulations and plus a cushion would no where as close look as big as the round does.

It''s gorgeous!!! It looks massive on your finger :) Where did you get the diamond? do they have a return/upgrade policy?

You''re so right. The cushion would be a lot smaller looking. Oh darn, going bigger ;-) *scolding self* Can''t do it! I promised my hubby I''d never go bigger (unless we become millionaires).

I got it from Blue Nile. They have a return policy, but it''s 30 days and I''m over by about 15. I''d probably feel like a complete ass if I changed it though. I just need to be 100% happy with what I have (I''m really 99.99% happy, I swear!).

Gurl, I love your ring and think it looks so awesome on your finger... but I so know what you mean. If it's any help, I've totally been there.

First it was between cushion styles...
Then it was color and clarity...
Then it was ring settings...

So here's how I handled my enveloping crazy. I realized that my ring was not the end all be all. And there were other solutions - it meant thinking outside of the ring box

Regarding my love of various cushion styles - I decided to make a little collection. My ering's a regular chunky antique style, but I got AVC's for studs. And when I get a bracelet, I'll get a BGD branded in a bezel, and for RHR, eventually a cushion yellow green diamond. It's my 10 year plan.

With color and clarity... I realized I like em all. I irrationally hunger for a D IF, which are crazy expensive unless you go small. So I have a little hunt going on for an .30 or so D IF of spectacular cut. My ering's an E. My studs are J. And I also want something N or lower. And after all that, something with very high florescence so I can glow at the club...

And I was completely nuts trying to decide on a setting from Leon Mege. I love his pave, but not for everyday wear, but one day it's gonna cover that colored diamond in my RHR.

So, in short, realize that there are different ways to satisfy the craving. A RHR. Studs. Look at the craving not as a detriment to your current fabulous ring, but as a springboard for future projects.

That''s an awesome idea. I told my hubby he had a 2 year pass for my newest love, but after that, I''ll find a cushion cut RHR.

I also really really wish I would''ve gotten the Vatche Swan setting. I love it soooo much!

Your new ring looks spectacular! Please tell us the stats of your new stone!

It is gorgeous and the stone looks very nice. A cushion would definitely face up smaller and then you''d be right back wishing you had this beautiful round stone. I would be thankful for what you have and if you need to, take a break from PS. Every day there will be a new and different look to consider. Just remember the reasons you got what you got - it''s nothing to sneeze at and a million girls would be over the moon with it!

Seriously - enjoy it. It''s wonderful - simply wonderful!

Your ring is absolutely stunning and gives you GREAT finger coverage.

I think it looks wonderful on your hand and I wouldn''t change a thing.

As for being afraid of what your friends might say.....the only thing they''ll say is "HOLY CRAP, WOWWEE, BLINGTASTIC, STUNNING, FABULOUS, GORGEOUS, I''M SO JEALOUS, WISH IT WAS MINE, CAN I BORROW IT" (get my point).

LOL

Enjoy it, post more pictures and maybe consider that cushion cut for another fabulous piece of jewelry (i.e. right-hand ring)

its gorgeous!!!

and i love your plan missdebby, you must be a mind reader

Thank you fellow bling lovers. I feel right at home here, lemme just tell ya! (PS, my concern is that most of my friends are "starving artists." Thankfully DH and I aren''t in entertainment so we''re not starving, but it still made me feel bad, you know?)

Here are the specs on the diamond:

2.51 RB
Ideal
I
VS2
61.5 depth
59% table
Symmetry VG
Polish excellent
Girdle thin to slightly thick, faceted
Fluorescence strong blue
Measurements 8.78x 8.66 x 5.36 mm

Athena, I totally know what you mean about feeling bad about your friends...but if they are good friends, they will just be happy for you and your new sparkly :)

It looks AWESOME on your finger, please do not change it!

Your ring is really gorgeous. I do know what you mean about not wanting to really change the setting to cause attention. I bought a setting similar to my setting I was getting rid of because I did not want friends/family thinking why did she get rid of the first one. I ended up hating the new ring and got a third setting for my diamond (which is my current setting). Be proud of what you have and not everyone outside of PS will understand our obsession. :)

lknvrb4 - what did you do with your previous setting? I really do love the Swan. I''ll have to convince my hubby before I get my heart too set on it.

OMG I just called Blue Nile and they''ll refund me the setting!! I''m so excited! Now if I can convince DH that I''m not a total ungrateful brat, then I may get my Swan!

I''m just gonna keep on talking ;-)

I''ve decided to give myself a week. If I still want the Swan that bad in a week then I''ll do it. It''s my bad time of the month so big decisions should not be made right now.

LOL... you thought that keeping the same setting would stop people from noticing that you went from a .50ct to a 2.5ct?

Girl, that is a huge gorgeous diamond, and so much bigger than your other one, the setting is not going to make any differend to whether people notice or not
2.gif

ETA I think you will be surprised how few people notice your upgrade. No one commented when I upgraded, and no one commented to Yssie. It was not as large a jump for either of us, but really, no one else cares as much as we think they will.

And since I am probably "that girl" I say get what you really want, and if this ain't it, then start over. Frrankly, for the amount you spent it should be 100% what you adore and you should not need to talk yourself into it at all.

Your ring is stunning! After seeing it, I suddenly feel like getting a round instead of my cushions.

Well, here's my take - if you want a cushion, your FI is supportive, why not?

Though your ring is really lovely as is, too, mind
5.gif

Like dreamer said, so few people notice - and even fewer care - what we do with our jewellery!

And if you can't fish for compliments here on SMTR where can you

It''s absolutely stunning! Now get off that ledge and just enjoy it. You have something few women will ever have.
Just wear it and love it.

Ok I''m definitely keeping the stone, and it looks like the Vatche Swan setting doesn''t hold a 2.5 carat, so my decision is made.

Not to be an instigator, but Vatche customizes their settings to fit all diamond sizes. I remember seeing a 7 carat RB in a Vatche Royal Crown.....

Oh damn! Well, I think I''ll bring it up to DH tonight. *biting nails*

Gorgeous!

The Swan won''t sit flush with my wedding band and I really want that. But now I''m obsessed with the idea of a solitaire. GRRR! What would be a good one that would sit flush with my wedding band that''s similar to the Swan (i.e, surprise diamonds)?

Hi Athena!!!!

Ahhhhh!!!!!! Your restlessness reminds me of myself!!!!!
9.gif

In my case, I wanted a pear shaped diamond as I just think they are soooooo feminine and sophisticated
3.gif
(and somewhat unusual in a ring), but decided on a round as my close friend has a pear and I didn't want to seem to be copying her. Although I love my ring, I do obsess about pear diamonds and wonder sometimes whether it would have mattered so much if I too, had chosen a pear.

Having said all that, your ring is spectacular, classic and elegant. Take your time making the decision about a possible change. And don't worry what you think people may or may not think. Your husband's generosity is lovely
36.gif
Enjoy!!!!

You''re so right. My husband loves my ring so much. I never thought he''d be the type to stare at a bling and that''s what he does now. I should just enjoy it and be happy that I was sappy enough to get something so similar to my original.

yes it really is gorgeous! but i understand being indecisive :)
