Tanzanite feedback please

Hey All,

I got my tanzanite in the post today, it is absolutely beautiful, eye clean as well, I cannot see any of the inclusions that can be seen in Tan's photograph.

The only thing that bothers me is it has a very strong colour shift when viewed in incandescent lighting and sunlight. Under incandescent lighting it is pretty much completely purple, to me it looks like an amethyst. I was quite disappointed in the colour until I took it upstairs and under diffuse sunlight there was a fair bit of blue but still very purple, so I took it outside and it is pretty much the colour depicted in the photographs on ebay. It's absolutely beautiful. I don't think I will use it for a tie pin though as I would be wearing it indoors most of the time where it appears purple. If I can put it into something more manly that I would wear outside often I would like wearing it like that. However I am unable to come up with anything so I am not sure what I will do yet.

Thank you so much for the help everyone, it's beautiful, I'll try get some photos up in the next few days, thanks again!

A few pictures, taken on my mobile so not the best quality sorry. The first picture is indoors, it is slightly more purple and not as dark in real life. The second two are outdoors where it appears like the photo on eBay, those two photos are quite true to life. I think it is a beautiful looking stone.
Is there anyway it could go in a pendant and not look feminine?

Setting it point down will help it look a bit more masculine.

Thanks very much for the tip, I can definitely see that.

Does anyone happen to have any images that I could perhaps use for inspiration. I am having difficultly finding any pendants with faceted stones. Do faceted gems just not lend themselves well to mens pendants?

Thanks very much, I do quite like that, I'll talk it over with my girlfriend and see what she thinks as well.

By the way, I have been admiring your avatar since before I joined PS, is it a spinel?

Yes, it is my nearly 5 ct spinel.

It's very beautiful, how do you have it set?

After some thinking, I drew this up, what are your thoughts on it? I would obviously need some metal to go behind the stone to hold it in place, would something like this be possible? My girlfriend found a similar design, but with a round stone. Apologies for the blurry photo, the camera on my iPad is quite poor.

That gem is a beauty, I think being on PS is going to make me broke.
Thank you so much for your help.

Welcome to the club!

At least you don't have the fcd bug!

Lovely tanz, by the way.

The upper triangular metal portion has to be fairly large to be proportionate to the pear and I worry the entire pendant might end up too large. Not only that, the angularity of the metal seems at odds with the rounded end of the pear unless you do some sort of illusion setting to "square" the bottom off.

Thank you for the compliment on my spinel; it is set in a ring.

Thanks Periwinklegirl!

Thanks Chrono, I'll stick to something similar to the one you linked me too then, I can definetly see what you're saying.
