Tanzanite Testing Kit?

Ebay person..i wonder if this is "tanzaniteconnection" who always be emailing me asking about highgrade tanzanite rough?

Personally, I wouldn''t invest in gemstones (specially if I already held shares in a Tanzanite producer). If I did, I would think that the recession window of opportunity has passed. Reports from Tucson say that the discounts are no longer being offered, as they were at this time last year. In fact, by the time you read in any newspaper that the recession is probably over, the entire market already knows this and has repriced accordingly.

If you are buying today, you aren''t going to get any particular bargain and need to believe in the long term invest potential of the stone. I don''t believe tanzanite has a good potential. It has been hyped to death, the price is already set in people''s mind. If anyone does want to invest in gemstones, I would suggest that the person look for an unusual stone that is still relatively unknown on the market. A few old example: red spinel (good substitute for ruby, spectacular on its own right and was not mainstream a few years ago), Mahenge spinel (striking colour, not easily mistaken for other types of pink gems).

As far as I am aware, if you want to check if a piece of tanzanite is geniue, alle you have to do is expose it to long wave and short wave UV. Tanzanite, and glass, is inert under both wave lenght, while all other synthetic and "replica" tanzanite shows some kind of color change under UV light for example synthetic forsterite shows green hues. If the stone under UV light is inert you should then look at it through a dichroscope and see if it is trichroic or dichroic, as tanzanite should be, while glass would show not be dichroic or trichroic.

Thanks for the Tip about Tanzanite. It will help in my test kit..but if I were going to invest $$ in top quality/ct gems, I would send the gem to a lab.
A lab report would be very wise for reselling an investment gem. There are many issues besides "is it glass or fake." Diffusions and radiation treatments are becoming common, difficult to detect without very sophisticated knowledge and equipment.
Home test kits are good for people like myself who buy medium quality/price stones just for fun..but home testing is not for investors like me who are going to demand certification before spending $$$ on a top quality/big ct stone.

you have mentuion that tanzanite can be around £300 per carat, who buy for that price can you be more soecific plaese , I have got some wanna sell them as soon as I manage to get them in the country , again its my first time wonder if anyway know which one is the safe way to get them in the country without me going over there.

read it again. Whether this was intentionally honest, or a mere slip, he did directly state that "there is no investment potential in Tanzanite nor any other gem".

Probably none since they could buy Tanzanite in a piece of jewellery with diamond accents and set in 18 or 9k gold for £300 per carat from a TV shopping channel.
