Tanzanites

Tanzanite might only come from one place but it is very plentiful and does not look like it is running out any time soon. Marketers have been trying to scare everyone into buying some with the cry that it's going to run out numerous times but this has not come true. Not only that, tanzanite is a poor choice for a ring stone and not advisable to be bezeled. It is heat sensitive, has perfect cleavage in one direction and is prone to chipping, especially in a ring. Some people don't mind its pleochroism but some do.

........... and to build on this ............. they are now mining even deeper and finding more and more! Latest "guestimates" are that it won't run out for at least the next 3 generations!

Having said that, most gemstones are rarer than diamonds (that are plentiful - the market is simply controlled to regulate pricing)!.

Sometimes it's no fun to hang out with experts...

Thanks for your share. :)

Hope you dont mind me sharing my new tanzanite. Its a greenish violet 15,48ct IF

Your question is one only you can answer. Do you love it enough to keep it? Are you willing to take a loss in selling it? Do you need the money right away?

Yes that so true :-) I will send it to the auction for a valuation, and if they set a good starting price I will put it out for action, otherwise I will keep it. If they set the price as they usually do it will give me about $2000 in profit.

In your other post you said you thought you would get around $4000 at auction. So you're saying this will give you a $2000 profit - so you've bought a 15ct Tanzanite for $2,000???????? I know many gem dealers (one of whom buys direct from a Tanzanite One site holder) and this doesn't sound right at all unless I've misunderstood.

I got it for less. As I said, I´ve made 350-500% profit of my sold tanzanites. This one I dont expect that much profit for. I resold a few diamonds the other week and got 110% profit, so they paid for this one. Its my hobby to get good deals ;-) I have my sources ;-)

Flipping diamonds is easy to do if you buy low carat weight/low colour/clarity etc but 110% profit indicates something is wrong (of course not for you) but I wouldn't want to be one of your buyers!

Well good luck to you but as I said in my other post, if I were you, I'd learn more about gemstones because I'm worried. People don't let 15ct faceted Tanzanites (even those that are not top colour) go for this low. If you're not conducting your own tests and/or have a gemmological qualification, I would strongly urge you to learn because there is a possibility that you MIGHT be being ripped off. Of course you may have found "supplier of the century" which would be fabulous but ........... I'm nervous for you.

If you are a stone flipper, you might have to change your designation to Trade even though you do it part time or as a hobby. I do not feel comfortable helping someone who sells gems for profit or as a hobby.

I thought I changed it. I will try again. Thanks

Sorry, I answered this thread first, so did not see it. Thanks. Unfortunately, are we breaking PS forum rules discussing a vendor's stone with the vendor that is up for sale? Or is it all right because we are concerned that it might not really be tanzanite?

Its not up for sale here?! Or anywhere else yet. And yes it might be a fake :o
