If the colour in the photo of the purple sapphire is what you see with your eyes then I wouldn't hesitate - it's stunning. I can't see the cut well though and a photo taken with the gem face on would be helpful.
Even if that sapphire were heated I would buy it in a heart beat. If it's been treated more than ........ only if it were priced accordingly.
The Tanzanite I can't see the colour because the colours in the photograph aren't right. Look at the hand/background and you'll see how brown/yellow everything is looking. So I really don't want to comment on this one. The cut looks unusual (you don't often find round Tanzanites) but it also looks like it has a fairly big window - although that could be a trick of the light.
Overall the sapphire is to die for but I don't think I (personally) would go for the Tanzanite. In any event, an unheated purple sapphire will normally outstrip a tanzanite in terms of value carat for carat.
What are the stats on the purple sapphire? Ct, mm size, treatment? Looks very pretty but do you have any straight on view? I cannot see the cut at all. The tanzanite seems to show a lovely blue but I'm not hot on what's happening right in the middle. Then again, I don't think the colour is accurate because your skins looks pretty yellow, which I'm sure it isn't.
I don't have a close on sharp photos of both the stones. I took the shots from the I phone..
And yes, the yellow warm light didn't do justice on the color either. But I have bought the tarzanite.. Didn't want to reserve the ring for too long after expressing an interest in it.
As for the purple sapphire, I am really pondering as it costs so much. I understand from the jeweller that there's only 1 lab here in Singapore and this guy is swamped with business. So one of these days if ever you guys wants to relocate here, and if you are an expert in gemerlogy, you be in for the good money. The cert says stone may be heat treated, inclusions : needles, finger prints, crystals. I think it is about 2.5 carat. But its goin to cost me USD5500, I could buy a really cool watch with this cost.
Yes dear Chrono, thanks for the highlighting, the stone must be handled with care I was told, as it may chipped upon impact, unlike sapphires..and the sales person said this...only after I bought it. How cunning...Haaaa..
Btw, we are not the most expensive lah.. You would recognize our Singlish ending with "lahs" if you have been here. It's just like the American "man".
I am hitting the sack guys... it's now 245am here in Singapore. Have a great great weekend ahead.
I think I"ll keep the money to scout some more, i really like the stones from AJS... so so lovely... even the tourmalines....
What does loupe clean means? I see this stated on lots of the description of the stones. I see some really pretty purplish pink sapphires in AJS and it says loupe clean. What is the difference compated to eye clean?
It's already Saturday morning where you are so you can sleep in lah. I grew up in the "lah" culture as well but broke it quickly when I transplanted to the US.
For those you don't want to see a single dot with your eye less than 6 inches away, staring until tears squeeze out, loupe clean matters. In the gem market, the standard is eye clean from 12 inches away. Eye clean is all you need, even for collectors. Loupe clean means you cannot see a speck even under 10x magnification. Some gem types are typically loupe clean and others aren't.
