Teaser pics of red spinels available!

They are both up now. What do you think about the round?

I will say this, I would trust Doug's description more than is photography. I know several people here, and myself, have purchased stones and they were better than his photographs and matching his descriptions.

Yes, PSers. And Doug is in Australia.

What is the exchange rate for US? What is 4200 at US rate?

I got an e-mail from Doug in regards to the red spinels. He says he does not have access to a certified lab but if I wanted to purchase either and have it sent grading he would cover half. If I was not pleased with the results then I could return for a refund. He would also extend the time allowed for reviewing them. Does anyone know what it cost and the time frame for grading?

AGL has prices listed on their website for a prestige report akin to the one that ABGF got for her red spinel. I think it's around $150 plus S&H costs to send the stone back and forth.

A regular gem brief is $55 plus S&H, but it won't tell you anything about the color, tonality and overall quality of the stone. With something this expensive, I would go for the top quality prestige report.

I think the AGL is the best lab report money can buy IMO.

That's what I see too!

i know that's what i saw.....but it certainly doesn't say that now!

however, i'm betting those on the fence should get off the fence and claim one of those. good red spinels are hard to come by and they are never going to be "inexpensive".

SO, should I go for the Pear or the Round?

OK, someone chime in here please. I am leaning towards the pear. It looks quite unique. I think I like the squatiness of it over a long pointy pear. Although the round may be more easily set. Opinions? Are they priced too high for uncerted stones?

I'd go for the pear and set it with sleek pear diamonds sidestones in platinum............(drool)

Go for the pear. It's better color, and the cutting is droolworthy.

OMG if I had the money, that pear wouldn't have lasted long enough for Doug to bother to post !!!

This is going to be one of those regrets that go on forever, I can just taste it !
Buy it already !!!!
I need to be put out of my misery .....

(well, I'm really not TOO miserable, since I have a very special Swala
treat that I recently bought, but that's not for this thread....)

Pear, but have it sent to AGL for full analysis.

I really hope a PSer gets these. I bet they are stunning. I'm another PSer that has bought from Doug and his stones are SO much better in person than in pictures. My peridot looked extremely olive in the photos but IRL it is a gorgeous apple green. If I had the money that pear would be on it's way to me!

Just confirmed to reserve it. WEEEEE!!!!!!

ATTAGIRL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent! I was logging in to vote for the pear as well, and hopefully that is what you bought?

I'm so glad for you, Bright Ice. I really am keeping my fingers crossed that it is everything Doug said it would be. Keep us posted!

Of course you are! We all are here in the CS forum.

Is that a problem?

I'm having a pink spinel cut by Jeff, too, so you might want to take that into consideration.
