Tell me about baguettes

@Yelena now I could be wrong so don't take me as gospel. But I could've sworn i read somewhere at least one difference is the number of facets? I wish I could remember where it was. I was trying to see what was more antique. Straight or tapered baguettes.

Thanks @MeowMeow maybe that is what it is. I can’t seem to find the answer easily.

My E ring has tapered baguettes on the sides. When I was looking for a ring - I was looking for the whole ring - not just the diamond. In fact the diamond mattered less then the whole asthetic to me.
I didn’t actually know at the time that people would buy just a diamond and have the ring made.
I think the baguettes make up for the smaller size centre stone.
knowing what I know now - I would be more inclined to go bigger and down on the colour and clarity grading.
All the stones are G VVs1 - with the center being a 0.6 passion8 hearts and arrows. One of my tapered baguettes gets dirty and I can’t clean it due to access.
After a lot of cleans and windex soaks I can get it to where someone else wouldn’t notice but I still can.
I would be lying if I said it didn’t bother me.
At first I thought I had broken the stone or it had somehow *gone bad* and turned dark..... I now know that’s not a thing. Lmao.
I am so attracted to baguettes in general - they have a very Art Deco vintage feel and style that is impossible to create with other shapes IMO.
I’m including pics of my Ering - have fun picking that bad baguette.... it’s not hard - once you see it you can’t un-see it.

I have also included a terrible picture of my mother’s engagement ring that used to house a magnificent emerald that broke.
Her partner attempted to replace it but got a bad jeweller who didn’t explain the stone would present as black (can’t remember what it was but it’s not an emerald obviously) - I hate to think what he paid and she hates it with a passion.
So I’m trying to find her an emerald to put in it that looks lovely but won’t break the bank.
yes yes I know - if wishes were horses - but we aren’t snobby about it and would take bad clarity for the right colour and a good cut... so if you know of any please link me up.
I will create another thread for that ring project.

Oh i feel so sad for your mom and her well meaning partner

@LLJsmom Do you still have this setting? It looks different from your present one. It’s gorgeous!

Thank you @MamaBee Yes, I do still have it. This is the original setting. The current setting was made by Victor Canera. The original setting is a bit small. I did not love the baguettes. And there were other issues about this setting that bothered me.

That’s what I love about it. The baguettes are straight. So pretty!

You are right. On this setting, the straight baguettes do work. I would have preferred them to be a little slimmer, and that is probably my biggest gripe about them. But I can't hold that against this setting. It's part of the design of the whole thing. The stone was too big for this setting, so I was stressed about it falling out for the whole year that I wore it, while deciding on my reset.
