I found one on Pala Gems site. So you have to get a jeweler to contact them for you. Can it be any jeweler?

It's from Sri Lanka.

They need to have an account with them. I have a friend with one if you want me to check the price for you. What's the code no?

Thanks Pandora. Code #18036

For me, this has way too much pink and not enough orange!

That's the point, for every 10 people that think that's a pad color, there will be 10 people that don't, and there's a huge premium on that stone for being a padparadscha.

If I were you, I wouldn't search under the marketing name, but under "pink orange" stones. There are orangy/pink spinels too, for far far far less money than an overhyped marketing name that no one can define.

I think Gene has some for sale that he recently cut from Tajikistan. The price tag has far less sticker shock.

Definetly does. Not nearly dark enough for that kind of cash

Bright Ice - Padparadschas should not be "dark".

Finewater gems have a lovely one.Good ones are VERY expensive. A huge number of those on the market are Be diffused.

There are huge fights about what exactly is a true padmaraga colour and whether the stone must come from Sri Lanka. Apparently the perfect colour is that of a Sri Lankan sunset (here's a picture of one of those that I took out there in 2008).

I have pretty strong views on the colour which many will disagree with - many stones described as padmaraga are in fact peach or light pink. For me, a pad should have an equal mix of pink and orange and be well saturated. When you see the real thing there is no doubt about it - but they are scarce.

This looks to be a fine color, love it. Is it priced reasonably?

A lot have sold, but his site is precisiongem.com, look under spinels. He calls most of them pink, but I see orange too. He may have more rough.

Gem 757 is a very good buy. If it were an unheated sapphire that color, the sky is the limit, especially for the size. I can see a million dealers calling that a padparadscha too.

Ditto absolutely on Pads not being too dark. And the Pala one is too pink for me to call it a pad...

I think it is priced very reasonably considering the colour, the origin and the fact that it is unheated. It's one of the nicest I have seen in ages.

Pandora,
It's heated.

Duh! My bad for not reading properly. Thanks TL.

Even so, I still think it is a very good price.

When I was talking to Gene about his Tajikistan spinels he did say there was no orange in them.

ETA: at least there wasn't in the one I was specifically looking at.

Well, if you compare them to a pure pink sapphire with the same tone, you'll see the orange. I see orange, but maybe he doesn't IRL, or if the photo isn't very accurate, but Gene takes accurate pictures. Tajikisan material looks orangey pink to me. It's still pretty, but it's not a pure pink.

Good buy on the 5 carat precision cut spinel, even if you're not looking for orangy pink. Huge size, and Tajikistan material has been rather difficult to come by lately.

Do you really want a pad?

Then you might want to take the discussion off PS and onto a CS vendor that can source one for you. They're too contested here to make a search any fun. There are too many opinions, too many monitors, too many different ideals--you can try, but the likelyhood is that as soon as someone posts something, someone else is going to say, "that's not what I call a pad." There is nothing wrong with different interpretations--it just gets confusing as heck when you're actually trying to buy something. Do your research, work with a CS vendor you trust (Tgal worked with RWise I think), buy what you like, and please share the photo when you're done.

I love the color, I have a padparadscha sapphire I love, but I also have "imperial" malai garnets and a beautiful orange-pink spinel that have similarly yummy colors as well.

TravelingGal - I absolutely love your stone. Just gorgeous.

Of course I always post this DP rough sapphire crystal as my opinion of the perfect padparadscha color.
Edward at Wildfishgems crystal
What a beautiful crystal!
It almost reminds me of some kind of fruit.

I love Padparadscha's. If you find one you love, please make sure that it comes with a Cert.
