Hee Hee yes he is getting it. The box is already wrapped in a disguising Red Envelope gift box...so he will be completely thrown off.
I was talking to Al last nite and realized just how excited I am about this stone. The reason is that alot of times people tend to settle or be in a hurry and just find something that has good numbers and nice images, but maybe may not be EXACTLY what they were hoping for in terms of tightness of numbers or the color/clarity etc. This little stone has really shown me that waiting until the stone you really want comes along WILL pay off. I wanted a stone in a very small crown and pav angle range, with excellent HCA score, eye popping idealscope. Luckily for me I had some flexibility on color but not really too much on clarity since I needed at least a VS to be sure it would work in tension with no problems from the setting company. Didn't want to find the stone then have them say no to set it.
Anyhow the funny thing is that I don't really know if this stone is such a dazzler BECAUSE of the tight proportions that I required it have, or just because it's simply very well cut. How much of a difference do the tighter crown and pav angles make. How much of a difference does that final EX make on the HCA. All of this is stuff that we get asked all the time on here and in the end it just comes down to people's eyes and what THEY see when they open their box and look at their stone. But I couldn't be happier that I didn't give an inch and that this stone fits absolutely every bill that I wanted it to. It makes me really ecstatic to know that I got him what I view as the cream of the crop and for the same price as any other stone with similar parameters but not quite so tight specs. There is absolutely nothing he could want to 'upgrade' on this stone, except size!
So my lesson learned from this is that next time I am shopping for stones..to wait until I find THE one. Don't let my impatience to have something color me into settling for something in the meantime. I really feel like the wait will pay off--and has!
Thanks for all the great compliments. Hopefully when he opens the box today he will be as floored as I was.
