How many of you LIWs have gotten one of these?

Last night, when talking to my FF, he tells me "I want you to be my wife... will you marry me?"

Me:

Erk! "Are you proposing?!"

Him: *laughs* "How could I when I can't give you a ring? What am I supposed to do, mail it to you?"

Me: "Oh. Um. Right." *blush* "I figure you're probably going to propose on the steps of the courthouse as we're sprinting up to get married so we can file the AOS right away."

Ha. Ha.

Dang, he really had me going there for a minute.

I was thinking "Oh my god-- is this it? Is he proposing? It sounds like it-- I didn't expect it to happen this way..." My thoughts were zooming a mile a minute.

But no. False alarm. *sigh*

Awe, I can imagine how excited you must have felt and then how disappointed just moments later. I haven''t had quite this experience, but there was an incident on my birthday in March involving FF giving me a necklace in a box that looked like a ring box (after everyone at work got it in my head that he was planning a surprise proposal)... I''m guessing you went through a similiar span of emotions.

Don''t worry though. Your boy is going to propose he just wants to make sure that he can do it right. It shows how much he loves you

I know.

I''m in no hurry to get engaged, really-- I know it will happen sometime between now and November, so I have a timeline. I mean, we''re working on the paperwork to get married, so I know it''s going to happen.

I don''t feel much anxiety about the engagement, but I was just caught off guard and excited at the prospect. Even though I accept that the traditional way of doing things isn''t possible for us, I''m still enough of a romantic to want a real proppsal!

i have actually had several almost-proposals!! my boyfriend tells me that he does it because he really just wants to be with me forever and can''t wait to be married... at first i would get really excited and then disappointed when i realized it didn''t happen.. all i know is that i probably won''t know when he is really proposing until i see a ring, because he "proposes" all the time. i think it is sweet though that he can''t keep the words in and it doesn''t bother me anymore. at least you have a good timeline and you know it will happen in the next few months!! YAY!

Galateia,

Oh I know the *sorta proposal* so, so well! Paul sometimes gets caught up in the moment, or in the emotion of the love we share, and I''ll never forget the first time he asked me to be his wife. We were at my grandpa''s house, and he was getting ready to go back to Georgia and it''s always sad when we have to part ways for a week, and as we were hugging bye, he looked at me with such a sweet face and asked, "will you be my wife?" It was in the next milisecond that he realized what he said OUTLOUD and he added, "Some day, some day soon, I''m going to ask you for real and I''ll be such a lucky man if you respond with ''yes.''" I was so shocked/happy/giddy. I love it when what he''s thinking gets the better of him before he''s able to restrain it.

Makes the *real deal* all the more anticipated, huh?

aww that must be a bit dissapointing when its not real. Oh well, it will happen soon enough

Hehe... you have gotta love those moments where he''s so caught up with things that he blurts that out, even if it isn''t the ''real'' proposal, eh fisher?

Seeing as FF and I are looking at next November (immigration timelines and all), I know I will get my proposal sometime in the next 15 months. All in all, I think I''m pretty lucky, because at least I know that it''s coming. When I read the threads about the girls who don''t even have a timeline, or don''t even have a definite "it will happen someday, start picking out a ring" sentiment to go on... I feel sad for them, and glad I''m not in their shoes. (You have my sympathies, girls!)

It''s amazing how even a 15 month timeline is comforting! O Irrational Girlie Brain, begone back to the depths of my unconsciousness from whence you came!

yeah it is nice to have a timeline and the months go by so fast. We talked about it in January for next July and I cant believe this July is almost finished and I have less than a year to go. WOOHOO!

I''ve had my timeline for quite some time (over a year).. my timeline is the end of august, which is rapidly approaching, so hopefully i will have some good news before then!!!

wow your timeline is nearly up!! I cant wait to see photos when you get it

Galateia - my hubby did this to me...when we were in Paris on the steps on Sacre Couer looking down at Paris...and he looks at me and says "you know I want to marry you"...my heart skipped a beat is he about to propose?...NO! He just looked at me and here I was waiting...can''t remember what happened but that was it...ha ha ha!

An ackward PAUSE I think...

When he finally proposed the cheeky sod...he gave me a parcel to open an it was an apple ipod...as an early b''day present...and he told me too look at the "instructions" on the back and on it is said "happy b''day will you marry me?"...cheeky thing all this while he sat at his laptop trying to act "smooth"...

hang in there...he will do it in his own way...

That is such a cute story!

We''re going the K-1 route, and the 14-month timeline is based on people''s experiences on the visajourney.com website. (A lifesaver!) Based on the current times for the Texas processing center, which is where he is sending the petition, it will be 5 months before they even _look_ at the petition, let alone process it.

I was thinking it would take about 9 months, until I got on that site and a couple were being congratulated for having everything go through in only 14 months-- apparently they were super lucky for having it go through ''so fast''.

Thanks for the encouragement-- it''s nice to hear from folk who have already weathered this storm!

Kalispera, what a great outlook you have! *soon enough* passed me by a good month ago. Hee hee. I''m excited for you! Has he left any hints?
