So, I''m sitting here with my new Us Weekly (yes, I have a trash magazine addiction) and it compares recent celeb engagement rings. There are two fantastic descriptions of Jamie Lynn''s ring and Ashlee Simpson''s ring.

Jamie Lynn Spears
"Roughly 1-carat, marquise-cut pave diamond on a white-gold band..." No pave on the ring. None at all.

Ashlee Simpson (picture of her Asscher just above this)
"Approximately 4-carat, cushion-cut square diamond on a pave diamond band..."

Oh, goodness. I''ve been so sheltered here at PS that I''d forgotten many people can''t tell and Asscher from a princess.

I like our little, educated world.

Haha...yeah I know what you mean. I have a radiant cut diamond, and the first thing people say is, "oh a princess cut!" which is a fair attempt. It''s a square radiant and it is not easy to tell that the corners are clipped. Then I tell them, "well, no. a princess cut has sharp corners." So they say, "oh, so that''s an asscher!" No. "Is it a cushion?"

haha!

I recently went into a maul store to see if they had any cushion diamonds in the size that I am looking for. (I wanted to see how one would look on my hand at that size) One of the sales associates came up to me and asked what I was looking for. I asked her if they had any cushion cuts on hand and she looked at me funny as asked what a cushion cut was... dead serious. I was flabbergasted... I see them so much on PS, it''s hard to believe that anyone would not know what one is.

US Weekly annoys me in this respect. They always get it wrong. Always. How hard is it to either call to log onto PS and get our take on the rings. We''re mostly average janes but we do a thousand times better than they do.

Kayak, I find this really hard to deal with, the people not having or knowing what various cuts or styles are. There are a couple of projects I''m trying to start. In my head they are beautiful. I''ve contacted a couple of vendors about the work, but then I chicken out. I don''t want to put too much money into something that should have stayed in my head.

I saw the same thing on TV...maybe it was a US Weekly show?...it was like some type of 30 minutes celebrity gossip show...anyway, the exact same thing where they had the rings wrong. I have cushion so when they say Ashlee Simpson''s ring was a cushion, and showed a picture of the asscher, I was like, "No way! That''s not even a cushion!"....then Hubby said, "Nope, that''s an asscher."....He made me so proud (sigh)...lol

....I guess when I looked at diamonds forever...and forced him to look, as well, some of it must have sunk in...

Yeah, US kinda makes me want to cry inside when I read stuff like that, because I know my friends are reading it too. Several of my friends say that they want a sqaure stone, and then they''ll say "You know, a princess or an asscher." When I try to explain that these stones couldn''t be more different, they look at me like I have a problem. Maybe that''s because half the time, the burry blown-up photos are so badly pixelated that an asscher practically looks like a round.

However, I will say that the cover of Vogue was done very nicely. That monster EC on SJP is absolutely TDF.

One thing that bothered me about that ring article was the prices. How inflated are some of those prices anyways? Some of the numbers they throw around for celebrity rings seem ridiculous. I know that it can get expensive but sheesh!

I don''t know if anyone read this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/carmen-electra-engaged-black-diamond.83950/ about Carmen Electra''s black diamond... with the link to perez hilton''s site talking about how her ring cost under 2k.... and how she wasn''t happy about it.

If you read this week''s US weekly that ring article lists her diamond as costing 100,000k!!!

I also read somewhere else that people were mis-quoting the size and or cost of Scarlett Johanssen''s ring and that it was actually much bigger and cost a lot more.... so there, take that! hehe.

Not really much of a battle if you ask me.

They were talking about it on E! this weekend.. maybe the E! News show. Anyway. They actually brought up the rumors about CE''s black diamond saying that it was a "real black diamond." Huh? There was no rumor that it was fake, just that the price tag was.
