O.k. so I did a proposal dress-rehearsal with my cat...lol...I'm serious....
I ran in to a few things besides the cat looking at me like I am crazy....
1. Timing of the Proposal Itself
I haven't decided if I want to do it right after we order and get drinks....we are doing fondue so it may be a bit crowded on the table with the hot pot and all.....but at the same time I don't want to be nervous all dinner and not enjoy it either....We would have some "dead time" between ordering and salad....
I don't want to wait until dessert though because we may be kinda sleepy since a four course meal with drinks takes about 2-2.5 hours there so we will be "closing down" the place and the last thing I want is to hear the vacuum in the background from a server doing side work while I propose... (The vacuum happened at my b-day dinner in May because we were there til close...)
2. How to ask....
O.k so I have the scrapbook I made as the "segway" tool between birthday and engagement....the last page has the three page letter I typed him (I am way better at writing than speaking so I wanted to get everything I wanted to say on paper)....A few things here....
Should I read the letter aloud to him or should I allow him to read it on his own...There are pros and cons to each..
If I read it, I express it with all of the emphasis on certain sentences and correct tone of voice on how I interpret it to read....but I would also draw attention to us and people may gather in our area and make us feel uncomfortable....not that I am ashamed of the proposal in any way....but I did ask for the "private" table away from other guests.
If I let him read it, he may know that something is up and get so nervous that he only "scans" the letter.
3. After the Letter, How do I present the ring?
O.k. I made a custom ring box with the question in it and i still plan on asking him the question so he can hear the words directly from me....
However, I don't know if I should just present the ring in the box and let him decide if he wants to put it on or if I should take it out of the box and put it on his ring finger (providing he says yes of course)?
4. Order of the Gifts?
Ok so I am bringing the scrapbook, the ring (in purse), the personalized photo book from shutterfly to commemorate the day, the DVD copy of our 1st date movie and the his and hers watches to commemorate our engagement.
Most of these gifts will have to, by default follow after the proposal due to the fact that I make reference to our *engagement*. Should I just dive right in to the scrapbook and the proposal or should I play off the b-day aspect for a bit to "throw him off" and give him the DVD first to make it seem like we are just celebrating his b-day?
Wow....so many small details to think about.....
(O.k. so now I may be starting to feel a bit nervous....I am sure i will be an antsy mess tomorrow!!!)
