The Daily Happy Hour -- Starting TODAY!

The 3rd glass has arrived, my final one for now. Criss cross etched crystal, late Victorian c1890, polished pontil & as with the first, extremely light & delicate. I now completely understand why not many of these old dames survive the decades!

:kiss2: Another gorgeous addition to your growing collection! I know you said this is the last one for now... but... I envision many more in the future.

You're right about the survival rate -- unfortunately. But that just makes the existing pieces even more special!

It’s a beautiful glass @Ally T! Yeah, I can see many more glasses in your future LOL, which I’m really looking forward to seeing.

I have my late MIL’s Waterford glasses. They are pretty, but very heavy. I just don't love them like I do the delicate antique glasses.

Please share a picture! We would love to see them! I love a heavy glass. I got some Waterford for my 30th & they’re my favourites, though I rarely use them through fear of knocking one over.

@Ally T, The Waterford pattern is called Powerscourt. They are heavy looking to me. That’s why they are packed away in the basement and not in my kitchen.

We sold my parents home in October. My basement is filled with boxes of stuff my mom wanted to keep. I’ll ask my DH if he remembers where the boxes of his mom’s glasses are so I can take pictures. Between our stuff and my parents stuff our basement looks like a sea of bankers boxes.

In the mind of a quiet English girl, that’s definitely how an American basement is supposed to look, is it not?! With maybe a sofa & a Dungeons & Dragons game set up too? Perhaps an old Metallica poster somewhere? Now don’t go ruining a 50 year old quiet English girls imagination, whatever you do… :lol-2:

LOL We have a TV, comfortable chairs, a table, exercise equipment and a treadmill that died years ago down there too…..along with lots of boxes and container store bins. I think your English girl imagination is not only safe, you imagined things pretty spot on. The only thing missing is the Metallica poster!

Ohhhhh…. This is making me miss my glassware. I sold most of it when I started saving for Flora. She was worth it, but I will always miss my pretty pink glasses.

I’m going to go cry now. Flora was very much worth it… but I … sigh, yea.

These are beautiful. I’m sure down the line, when your Flora Pot is recouped, you could try & hunt them back down? Do you know who your sold them to? Wasn’t @Dee*Jay was it??! :lol-2:

@Calliecake - I only have one Waterford glass. I think it's in the Lismore pattern, and even though it's a tumbler I also use it as a stemless wine glass. #deehasnoclass  If you get yours out I'd love to see them!

@lavenderdragonfly23 - those are AMAZING! I've never seen anything like them. Don't dispair; maybe you'll find some more in the future to add back into your collection!

As for basements... if I showed you all pics of mine you'll run screaming away from your screens!!!

Ah, my mother's Waterford was also Powerscourt! That stuff is tough. It was dropped multiple times and only one chip. None actually broke.

I wish, in retrospect, I had taken some of it. She had a lot. Dividing your parents' things is a surreal experience - there are four of us. It seems I took some really weird stuff (hello, Faberge-like egg from one of their trips to Russia!)

I just looked up the Waterford Powerscourt -- what a wonderful pattern! Unfortunately I don't get much Waterford at auctions or estate sales becuase it's usually priced to high (for my purpose), but I do love it.

@empliau - LOL to taking some weird stuff. Even if it seems odd, at least you'll have memories.

@Ally T - that looks like a fine christening!

I'll never get a real one, nor could I afford to insure it. This will do:

My usual cocktail is a caiperinha - Cachaça, lime, sugar, and ice. I can't do one full strength, or I will wobble for hours, so I have one diluted with water. On the plus side, I'll never have scurvy!

Tonight's tipple:

Thank you @empliau for your post reminding us that drinks are tasty even if they're not in antique too small to have a good time glasses. Pretty antique glasses are equivalent to eye clean gems. Tonight I had two top shelf margaritas in ugly goblets and they tasted fiiiiiine and made me happy. They were "oh my aching back" margaritas as my reward for doing 3, count 'em THREE solid days of gardening that left my hands so swollen I can't get my rings on nor can I lift my arms above my head or bend over without groaning and creaking like an unoiled rusty hinge.

Sounds extremely well earned! I am just taking a break from weeding, so I shall be rewarding myself later. And it won’t be in a fine antique glass - my needs will be greater than 5 sips!
