Hey ya''ll,

I just discovered this forum today after googling my dress- I just ordered the Melissa Sweet Dora from Priscilla of Boston this afternoon. I see it''s a favorite around these parts. ;) Anyway, I was kind of in a happy delirium over deciding on the dress, so I didn''t think twice about the consultant telling me the dress would be in in SEPTEMBER. My wedding is October 11. Is this cutting it crazy close? Yes, yes it is. She then went on to say that alterations typically take a month, but not to worry about it because the seamstresses wouldn''t have a problem accommodating my schedule. Now that the high is sort of wearing off, I''m kind of freaking out. Is it possible that they quote longer lead times than necessary to get the dress in? If I''d ordered in February would they have told me it was too late?

Someone reassure me here..I''ve never done the wedding dress thing before, obviously. Thanks! and Hi! You all seem like a great group.

Hi and welcome!

I do think it''s cutting it a bit close....what if you tried it on and something didnt fit right....alterations take a good few weeks, I think you should take that into consideration....I would really freak out if it was that close!

Wow! Now I''m freaking out. I thought I had another month or two to find my dress. I''m getting married in September. I need to start dresses on ASAP!

What I found out is that most of the BS want to have 1-2 months for alterations, just so they can fit it with their schedule. I had people telling me I had to order my dress in November for my August wedding. Just because it could get busy around summertime... The dress would arrive within 4-5 months....

At this point I ordered my dress in Vegas, I''m living in Europe and when I come back in July, they will clear out the schedule of the seamstress, so my dress will be ready in 5 days!! So it''s all a question of planning and schedules. Eventually, I can still take it to a seamstress here, may something weird happening to my body in the last 2 weeks.

So I''m sure that if they told you they can manage it, you''d be perfectly fine. I guess around these times it just get busy. Too busy for them to alter everything within a few days.

In my limited experience they usually tell you the last possible date that your dress might be in "just in case", but it likely will be in earlier...

Good luck!

i''d say don''t worry about it. these salons deal with these timing issues day in and day out. if it comes late, they''ll alter it in less time. as long as they guaranteed it''ll be in in time for your wedding, that''s what you need to worry about.

and... i always thought dresses tend to come in early, too - but i ordered my dress in july, and it''s not here yet. they had told me it would arrive around christmas. my wedding is march 15, so we''re starting to cut it close. that said, i called the salon this week, they said it would be another two weeks and then we could schedule fittings. if they''re not worried about the timing, i''m not worried about the timing.

Hi,
They will get it done before your wedding. They really will. Its their job and the shop wouldn''t exist if they went around ruining weddings all the time. Alterations take some time, but can really be done in a day or two if you are legit pressed for time...that does however cost more. Also, MS probably gave you the outside end estimate for how long it will take to make and ship...so that you will be thrilled when it gets in sometime in August. Sept will be great for alterations, its after the prom and wedding crush...
Enjoy that you found your dream dress and trust that it will come in.

Don''t worry cake! I''m sure PoB will manage the timing issues. I ordered my Dora (yay!) in early December and was told mine would come in June. My wedding is Sept 28th. I ordered my dress from an authorized retail partner (non PoB).

It''s torture to wait, huh? But I''m very excited for you!

I was quoted 4-5 months for my pronovias. Is Melissa Sweet a higher end designer? Maybe that''s why it takes so long... and/or if it''s a very intricate dress...

I was quoted six months for my Demetrios dress, but it arrived in about five months.

When the dress came in, I called to schedule an appointment with the seamstress. I was told that the seamsress wouldn''t even see me until two months before the wedding at the earliest. After my initial shock wore off, I contacted another seamstress, just in case, and she told me that she doesn''t see brides, or bridal parties, until one month before the wedding. So, it seems pretty nomal to restrict alterations to a month or two before the wedding.

Likely, your dress will arrive before the quoted date and one month is all you need for the alterations.

I just ordered my Melissa Sweet gown last week and they said it would come in mid-May for my July wedding. I spoke with three different salons who sell Melissa Sweet and they all said the gowns were arriving in May if ordered now, so September does sound a bit late. Perhaps they''re just giving themselves a lot of padding in case your dress isn''t in on time?

Thank you all! My gut feeling is that if they aren''t worried, I shouldn''t be either...I just don''t want to set myself up for extra stress, you know? I''m thinking they want to give themselves a bit of a cushion, too. So I will sit back and relax and enjoy the post-dress-ordering glow.
