I think that soda has a brown mask! I kid, I kid.

Seriously, it looks like a pretty close match to me.

It looks like the fanta is past its expiration date. I think the garnet would be the more refreshing of the two.

The 12 March is the date bottled. The quality control in Tanzania is awful. In every crate I buy there are at least two flat ones.

Your camera, or the PS upload process, made the soda look brown (seriously), so I'm glad you posed it next to the soda, otherwise, we wouldn't get a true idea of the color.

Kismet is right, the soda actually does have more brown than the garnet in real life. Most attempts at photographing the stone it showed brown which wasn't there. However, the pic is a pretty good representation of the two subjects.

Here is another where the Fanta may look more appetizing.

Is Fanta soda different over there, as there is no brown in Fanta soda in the States. Over here, Fanta soda is pretty neon orange. It's all the chemicals and artificial coloring we love to use in the US.

Ditto. What's the size/dimensions of ur spess? it looks like an orange candy * yummy* :cheeky:

I think we need a control group with another spess and a glass of fanta that's been through first world quality control. I do know it's still made with cane sugar here which is brown like the snooty "sugar in the raw" in the states. I also think Americans are used to fanta in cans so they associate "fanta orange" with the color of the can instead of the beverage.

Blithesome- it's 2.34ct. I got it cheap off a local guy in Tanzania so I don't know the dimensions but comparing it to my other stones I'd say 7.5-8mm on each side.

Here's my spess (very old picture) next to a bottle of fanta soda in the states. The clear plastic bottles are very neon orange. Is the Fanta in your photo as neon orange as this bottle? The reason I ask is that many companies have different ingredients in their products depending on the country it's made in. They might not use as much artificial color, or they may use a different artificial coloring agent.

That is pretty %#$@ing orange! Cocacola just exports the syrup and it is mixed, sweetened and bottled locally. It's certainly not the same color.

Well, I think your stone is more saturated than the Fanta you have, and it's a very pretty stone.

They have fanta in cans here imported from UAE, I may have to see how it does against a glass of that.

As I recall fanta is a bit different in every country. In when we were in South America a few years ago I noticed it was a bit more yellow than what we have in the states.

The states though, its changed (at least diet fanta has) its got that funky brown cast to it IRL. The regular is still the same color though. However I WILL say I've seen it off colored before (don't know if it was quality control or just old bottles, but I wasn't gonna be a lab rat to find out! )

The diet is way gross.. I tried, blah....*insert hurl smiley* the regular would send me on a sugar roller coaster. Folks would wonder what the heck I was high on

Honestly, I think Fanta orange soda is too scary looking to drink!! :errrr:

Sorry for the slight hijack, but since we're talking about neon artifical colored soda, we need to get a bottle of Battery Acid Mountain Dew and post a picture of a chrysoberyl next to it. :naughty:

Geesh, the things people digest!! :errrr: Even the names are scary!!

ETA: I found out this is a prank bottle of Mountain Dew, it doesn't exist.

I think the Fanta manufactured and sold in the US is different from those I've seen in Asia. I don't recall it being such a neon orange there. It also tastes different.

OMG - you are KILLING me. I'm DYING laughing here.

The stone looks yummy, the drink not so much  ! I think you made a great choice with that stone. Is this from the shopping trip (a week ago?) when people were saying "Have a good time, but be careful!"?

I bought it after getting back to Dar after seeing how expensive spess has gotten. I saw it a few weeks ago and went back to get it. The seller must have bought it a long time ago because I got it for $125.

Wow, that's great!
