Okay, I can''t be the only one dealing with this: the heat wave where I live is making my hands swell like mad and it makes my rings tight! They are still comfortable, and I can get them on and off easily if I wet my hands down, but I"ve got finger pudge that I would rather not have

!! I mean come on, its bad enough that I have a little pudge other places, I don''t need it on my fingers too!

In the cooler weather, my rings fit well, so I am not sure about re-sizing them! I don''t like when my diamond swings to the side on my solitaire, so I can''t go too big. But right now I think I could easily go up a half size or more and have them still be a little tight

Plus, I bought them both online (whiteflash and e-weddingband.com) so re-sizing would have the added PITA of sending them away. If I do it, I want to get it right!!

So how have you dealt with this issue of too-big-in-the-cold versus too-small-in-the- heat? I know, I know, not the most interesting post, but sometimes a gals gotta be a little practical too...

PS: I should add that it is "cold" 8 months of the year and only really hot for 3 months...

I wish I had a solution! I have no idea what to do--my rings are so loose in the winter that I can *almost* shake them off, but in the summer they are TIGHT! I try to stay really hydrated, but it doesn''t really help, I just have very moody fingers!

What works for me is just wearing one ring--I had my e-ring, wedding band and spacer sized to wear them all togther, so individually they are VERY loose. Lately I''ve just been wearing my wedding band because it''s the loosest on my finger alone. I wouldn''t do that in the winter for fear it would fall off.

I think I know the solution...I need summer rings and winter rings

Oh DD - I''m right there with you girl. I hate this weather

Since this is my first summer with my ering I''m going to try & hold off on resizing as I just had a horsehoe put in shortly after I got my ring because it was a tad too big & was spinning. Honestly, I don''t think there''s a "right" fix to this. I guess we just can''t win. If someone has a solution I''d love to hear it. I''m willing to try anything. Like you said ... I got enough pudge in other places I don''t need it in my fingers too.

And I''m glad I''m not alone with running the cold water on my hand to get my ring off - lol

The heat index has been 105+ in the DC metro area the past several days. When it''s hot and my fingers swell, my e-ring will stay up perfectly. When the AC at work is cranked up so high that I have to turn my space heater on (???!!!) or during winter, my e-ring will flip to the side. When I work out, I have to take both of my rings off. If I''m outside (walking, biking, etc...), I''ll wear my RHR on my left hand.

I have the same problem. It is so frustrating isn''t it. Winter time, I can almost shake my ring off too.

A lot of times in summer, I can''t even wear my rings. I can''t get them on. If I do, then I can''t get them off, without soaping my hands up really really well and pulling them off. It makes my finger swell all the more.

I have learned only to wear my wedding ring in the summertime, if we are going out.

I''m right there with you. No fun. My ering was sized up a while ago. But the eternity band is a 4 1/2, fits fine most of the time. The heat hit here all of a sudden, hoping my body gets used to it. I don''t sleep with them on, take them off as soon as I am home. That might help you, not sure. But feel your pain....

Yes! I have to take all of my rings off at night or else my fingers will swell during the night. It''s actually very painful!!!!

Yep, summer rings and winter rings. Definitely the way to go!

I''ve been doing this for several years now. My summer jewelry tends to be less blingy as well, since I do more outdoorsy activities.

It can''t be just the weather, you gals must retain fluids or something

The weather here in Kansas varies from 20 in the winter and 105 in the summer. My fingers don''t vary at all, unless I eat top ramen which is just loaded with salt.

I would try cutting down on the amount of salt you eat especially in summer this can help heaps :).

The other thing I do when my fingers feel pudgy is I massage them in a downwards motion, it seems to help me some :).

Wow, who knew that so many people had this problem! I think the idea of having summer rings is a great idea... I have a half-etenrity RHR that is about 3/4 size bigger than my other rings, and it is comfortable in the heat, so I can wear that if I need to! Unfortunately, it is a pre-PS purchase and it has poorly cut diamonds... I think my next dream purchase will be this 5-stone ring in the 1cttw size! That would be a great RHR and summer ring

As for salt, I certainly notice that affects my body''s water retention... but heat and HUMIDITY (ahhhh stinkin'' humidity! Adds like 10-15 degrees to the actual temo) also affects the body''s distribution of fluids (i.e., heat = keep fluids near extremities to cool it down), so heat alone can also cause swelling. Obviously, people vary on this. I think it may affect people who live in cooler climates more, since then the body would be used to a particular method of fluid distribution and may get all wonky in the heat. I never had this problem living in a less humid climate.

My rings fit well in the winter and can be pretty uncomfortable in the summer. But since I live in Ohio and it''s hot for less months out if the year, I just deal with it. I don''t wear my rings to work out or to sleep because then they would be really uncomfortable. It''s really kind of annoying, I wish there was a better solution.

ooooh, I have that problem too! I guess most of the people have it! the salesman in the chopard store where I was recently told me that his ring size is 3 numbers(!!!) bigger in summer than in winter! - well, his advice to me was also to get a summer and a winter collection
2.gif

I''m not a friend of "sizing balls" (or how do you call that stuff) on the inside of the ring, so my solution: I buy all my new rings that are not easily resizeable (eternity-styles and so on) as large as possible (my summer size
2.gif
) and in winter I am wearing a thinner band as a stacking band with them to prevent them from slipping from my hand. - it works and looks nice too (you could get a very thin eternity ot a very tiny plain band - I tried on a few different ones and it looks great) If you don''t like the stacked look, take a 1mm plain band of the same metal as your e-ring - it''s almost not visible

Flygirl,
I like your suggestion the best!

I do have to admit, the swelling issue is at its worst when I''ve had a salty dinner the night before, but bland food is not an option for me - I''d rather double up on my bling!

It''s disgustingly hot here in Maryland/DC. I am definitely going to have to work on DH about a summer ring! It is so painful to put on tight rings! Or worse... not being able to take them off!!
