Mara, it''s just lovely! The size, the new head, everything! Thanks for the great photos!

I wish you well,

Bridget

Thanks ladies!! Well I told one of my coworker/friends not to tell anyone over the weekend (there was an industry show I missed on Thurs/Fri to be in Texas instead!) about my upgrade because I had just told everyone here I was visiting friends ala my ''secret upgrade not '' plan ...first thing when I get in this morning, the owner of the company goes ''are you all upgraded''...
20.gif
THANKS coworker/friend!!! So of course like three other girls are all ''oh did you get a new diamond''...and the owner goes ''okay now that looks fake!'' and one of the gals said ''that''s not very nice'' and so the owner goes ''oh i''m just kidding, it looks beautiful and crystal clear''...
20.gif

So the cat is out of the bag I guess...now I have to ream my friend out for opening her trap! GAH!

Well maybe it''s silly, but I had HOPED no one would notice it really because I don''t like the attention and the assumptions/judgements people make about purchases like this...we''ve talked about this topic on here before! I work with these gals and you all know how it is in an office with lots of women (we have literally 3 men in our office and about 20 women!). So oh well, hopefully no one else knows or will mention it and in a few weeks it will be old news that no one remembers.

Also, I was really surprised my friend said anything as we always talk about going-on''s in the office and I know she keeps that stuff under wrap, so I am wondering what the heck happened here?!

Well, who knows how the topic came up and how it was said to your boss (sarcastic or in an exciting manner), but I know how it is in the work place and how women cackle.
20.gif

Could your boss be a Pricescoper lurker? (Maybe your co-worker didn't say anything.)

Oh I so know what you mean about the head of the ring! That is just as important to me as the shank of the ring! It makes a huge difference! I''m still drooling over those shots too!

Mara, Congrats on the new diamond and the new head! I like it better with the six prong look for some reason. I love how the prongs were made tiny and rounded.
It''s beautiful!!!!
Congrats again.

Mara,
I am wondering if one of your co-workers is also a "closet" PSer???!!!

Mara,

How annoying! One of the reasons I dont wear my ring to work (besides not wanting to damage it) is that my co-workers are so annoying and obnoxious with rings/jewelry, etc...Even when I wear my RH stack rings there are always people that are like,"ohh, your rings are soo pretty!", and some people even have the b**** to ask to try my rings on- can you believe that! I hate all of that attention. The ONE time I wore my e-ring to work (I was not on-duty, just went in to show my co-workers when I just got engaged) they were oogling my diamond, some people were like "oh, how BIG is that diamond?" and some one even asked how much it cost my FI to buy it for me. It just blows me away how gutsy some people are and what they say...it was after that that I said the ring stays home when I am working- I just cant be bothered...

And I work with ALL WOMEN, so I totally hear ya.

Thanks everyone!! The new stone and my rings are currently happily humming away in the US this morning...now that I have a new stone I am obsessed with keeping it clean AT ALL TIMES. Wonder how long that will last!! hehe. It also feels funny to touch the table/top of the diamond and feel 6 prongs. I keep doing it. I''m sure that''s not great for thumbprints on the stone, hehee. I better keep cleaning it!

FFF it''s funny you mention the whole head thing because I do think that head styles are totally underwhelming many times. It''s funny, I have mentioned this before but people put all this thought into the settings meaning the ring part of the e-ring and then they plunk something like a 6 prong stuller or a 4 prong stuller on it. I think that all angles should be considered for viewing, not just top down. But I obviously did the same thing when we were shopping, we spent all this time figuring out the ring itself and then when they said what head do you want I said oh whatever that one is (like the jeweler''s wife''s ring) which was a 4 prong something or other...but looked more like a modified V prong than a stuller solstice. Anyway I got the stuller solstice and it was okay but I just never loved that side view though I had it for almost 4 years. It was not like I hated it, it just was MEH. So when this time came around to get a new head and possibly change it up, I jumped at the opportunity and am so happy with the change big time. So now it''s totally my mission to get people to start to consider HEADS when they are designing or looking into settings and rings. It''s an important component of the process.

As for how long til the next upgrade, HA HA well I guess my beloved hubby was teasing my Mom about my next upgrade while I was gone, and was telling her that when I have a boy child that I can have an upgrade again and then he said oh OKAY I guess she can for a girl too...(he''d love to have either but for joke purposes, he always talks about a boy child to carry on the name)....anyway so last nitehe was telling me about it and I could just laugh. So not only have I managed to get him from balking at the thought of an upgrade when/if a child comes, but then it went to okay if it was a boy child, and now it''s okay for a girl child too, and NOW he''s actually talking about it ON HIS OWN to members of my family. Since we aren''t going to have kids for oh about another 3-4 years IF we decide to have them....this just cracks me up at how far he is progressing with so little help of mine. Who knew?!?!? So who knows gals...maybe in another 5 years...I''ll be able to get that 3.29 or it''s close relative.
31.gif
In the meantime though I have other ''things'' on the list to tide me over...heheee.
Re: "heads" -- This has been my pet peeve since I started looking at e-rings before I got engaged in 1989 (yikes!). I think I''m just a "basket" girl at heart -- but again, it can''t just be plunked on, like you say, it has to be cast with the whole ring together as one piece and be integrated.
Re: 3.29 -- that is my diamond''s exact weight, funny you said that! Only problem is trying to find an ideal in that size range -- I''ve been scoping it out and it is slim pickin''s!!!

Hi Mara! I can''t believe the NERVE of that coworker of yours! Very uncool to spill the beans like that. I hate unwanted attention from coworkers too, which is why I hide my hand during meetings and keep it in my pocket whenever we''re all milling around. Of course, it''d probably be easier for me to just leave the ring at home, but I can''t bear to be parted from my baby! I work with all women too but they''re a bunch of salty left-wing ex-newspaper reporters who couldn''t care less about diamonds, so fortunately I haven''t had to deal with any snarky comments about my ring. If anything, they just stare in disbelief and say nice things. God love ''em!

Headlight!!! So you''ve been scoping around, eh? Care to share? Are you in the market for an upgrade?

KD, you put a smile on my face today! I think I''ve mentioned before (or was that just to my hubby??!!!) that our 20th anniversary is in three years and then I''ll have had this stone for 6 years, so it would be a good time to exercise my trade-in option with my jeweler. But, I''m sure I''ll go "a little bigger" (LOL) and quite honestly, I think rounds start looking a little "much" when they''ve reached a certain point in size. Truly, I have to say that while I loooooooooove oogling at all the ideal rounds here on PS, I want something a bit more "romantic/antique" like a cushion, OEC, OMC, or oval. I just don''t think I''m cut out for a round stone. I''m even open to an emerald or -- hope you''re all sitting down -- a stunning super-size marquise (GASP!). I''ve got the 3.29 ct/9.59 mm now, so I am sure in three years I will want to size up and you know what the pricing would be for an ideal round 4.5 cts. Sad thing is, if I want that I''d have to start searching NOW because it could realistically take me THREE years to find!!!

Headlight, a 3-4ct marquise would be quite noticeable
emwink.gif
I also saw you were thinking of a cushion.....*this* would be my choice. Wouldn''t it be fun to take your time and start diamond shopping again?

Lorelei and MiniM: Thanks so much - yeah, I still love the 3-stone too. And I love Mara''s. AND I love the bangle.....AND AND AND! LOL

So many diamonds, so little time.

FF, glad you like the photos - I know we sure enjoy taking them!

What a night and day difference the stones are, and the new setting is very elegant....

okay so i told my friend thanks for telling XYZ about my new upgrade!! and she was like WHAT i didn''t...actually turns out she forgot i was going to TX to get an upgrade.
20.gif
so then i was like well how did the owner know? my friend thinks she just put 2 and 2 together since my friend DID say that i was going to see friends AND my jeweler in texas...so i think when she asked if i was upgraded, she just guessed. and DUMB ME falls into the trap and goes uh yeah i did. DER! *bangs head* so now i feel really weirded out, because i guess during the show this weekend, when it came up where i was....and she told them, someone else was like ''yeah her ring is really big''...so now i know my ring was already the topic of discussion and that now the owner knows i upgraded, she will most likely gossip it out to everyone. CALGON! as much as i love my office and the group there for the most part, sometimes on days like this i wish i worked with more MEN. who could care less about what the hell is on my hand at any given point in time.
20.gif

when i told greg the office drama update he goes ''repeat after me, i dont care what others think of my diamond''...see today HE is the reasonable one!!
2.gif

oh and surprise of surprises i took more pictures last nite, and some came out really cool, so i will upload in a few.
31.gif

Just get your "response to Mara''s upgrade" cards together and pass them out at the next office meeting.
31.gif

Mara, that''s not cool of the owner. I wouldn''t want to put one of my employees on the spot like that regardless of what they purchased. My friend has a similar problem at work with her car. She has a position which doesn''t pay much considering the car she drives, and people always comment on her big-a$$ 7 series BMW. I think your ring is beautiful, but it certainly isn''t over the top. You can upgrade to your heart''s content.

mara- the new diamond is fan-tabulous!! love the new head. makes me want a 6 prong... hrm...

i wouldn''t worry too much about the office gossip - there''s nothing you can do now anyhow, since the cat''s outta the bag...

Yes, that size marquise could be considered a lethal weapon!!!
Ahh, is there nothing like diamond shopping??!!! Since my jeweler with whom I have the trade-in option is located a plane ride away, I would let him know specs of what I am interested in and he''d make sure he has a "variety" in-house or called in upon my arrival. So, I really won''t need to do any other shopping, per se, if I want to get my trade-in and shop with him. Also, if I can give him an incling as to the type of mounting I''m thinking of, then he''ll have some "samples" for me to see (they would make my mounting custom to the stone I select). Sort of like having everything ready as much as possible like WF did for Mara since she was travelling so far. (What we ladies won''t due for bling!!!)
