Somehow I missed your question. I just use Mr Clean or something similar.

wow, that looks like a big job! One of my favorite chores when I was a kid, was organizing my Mom's jewelry box. She had me do it a couple times, and then when I got older I would take it upon myself to do it. Somehow it was relaxing going through the items, untangling all the chains, cleaning the rings and putting them back together again. she had a standard jewelry box, and then a number of smaller cardboard and jewelry boxes in her top dresser drawer for matched sets and costume jewelry.
