The passing of an old flame

You've written a beautiful eulogy, probably as warm & respectful as anything at her funeral. Sad to see somebody go so early & maybe a little sad too to realize that in such a major life change, she actually left some time ago, in a way.

As you say, you are who you are partly because of her, so she lives on in you, what you teach your own kids, how you treat your wife, somehow in all your interactions with others. That's no small gift from a teenage girlfriend. She knows it now, too.

You are quite a guy yourself.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I had something similar happen; I had a high school sweetheart for about a year and the two of us were inseparable during that time. We ended things when I went off to college, we fell out of touch for around three years, then randomly came back into contact. He told me that he had joined the military and would be leaving for Iraq in a couple weeks. Six weeks after he left, he was killed.

Although we hadn't remained in contact after our relationship ended, I was absolutely devastated.

I can fully understand and appreciate where you're coming from, and I'm sure she knew you were at her funeral and was happy to have you there. Again, you have my sympathy.
