ha... :appl:   :wavey:  :o

so as maybe a few of you might remember.. its been a long journey.. lol.. i think i joined here about a year ago.. and i made my fair share of posts...... and i came close to pulling the trigger several times and things just popped up as they usually do in life... got laid off from my job, etc etc... but i never lost the faith!!! lol... and during the time i soaked in the knowledge from everyone and in the end i got a .563 ACA H VS2 1.1 HCA beautiful stone. So fed ex dropped it off by mum today in Orlando, (i live in tampa) and i drove up there and we unboxed it together... well we were really blown away. Whiteflash sure knows how to present itself. Lovely brochures and boxes and they give you tools to look at the diamond so you can see the hearts and arrows and a special little claw thing to hold it up. You should have seen Mum, she was like. Wow, I want one of these too. Where can i order one right away. Lol.. I'm super close with mum, she's my best friend. Anyways, promptly got in the car and drove back to Tampa and went to some B&M's to see if i could find a simple 2 mm knife edge tiffany looking 4 prong 14k band. I know i could have gotten it set at white flash and all but I decided to have the stone first and then find a local guy who i could give some business too and have as a place she can take it to get it cleaned. I found a nice guy who is a master jewler who said he could design it and set it for me for $300 and I feel its fair. Well I Just got home and now its sitting in my car as I type away cuz my girlfriend is up and about. LOL. waiting for her to go to bed soon so I can go grab it and bring it in and stare at it for a while before i try to find a secret place to hide it. Ill take a few pics of it tonight and try to post. I have a crappy phone so not sure how it will come out but ill give it a try. :) when it gets set next week ill take some pics of those too. Anyways, this is longwinded but thanks to everyone for all of your help!!

I started this process having not a single clue about a diamond.
now i feel life i'm a junior gemologist... lol

oh.. one last thing.... i must say its quite funny, when you go in a B&M and you start talking to them about crown angles and lower facets and asets and idealscopes and tables depths flourescence twining whisps etc... they sure like to stare at you like youre an alien. lol.. seems like 99% of em have no clue what you are talking about...

its all just... color and clarity to them.. nothing more..

crazy... i feel like a lot of guys like me get "taken" in those places and end up getting very average looking rings for their girls....
thanks to you guys I wasn't one of em. :read: :read: :read:

thanks again..

So happy for you Jonas. Please come back with photos, and especially hand photos after your proposal.

My son just proposed to his girl with a Brian Gavin diamond about the size of yours. It is a lovely ring, and she was thrilled.

The sparkle is amazing, isn't it?! :appl:

thanks fly girl!! good for your son. im sure you guided him perfectly in the whole process. yeah it sparkles like crazy, i took it in the B&Ms before i got home and when i pulled it out everyone behind the counters were like.. whoa.. where did you get that... when i said online.. they all gave me the most incredulous looks... nuts... i tell you what girl, under their leds that thing looked like a new star in the solarsystem...

Oh, that's wonderful! I am so glad that things worked out for you. Those "typical jewelery store" diamonds look great, until you put them side-by-side with the top-tier cuts of Pricescope. It will be a gorgeous ring. :-)

Congratulations! Good luck with the proposal and make sure to post handshots!

I love your post! You learned so much and now you got a killer sparkler of a stone! Congrats! Make sure you post pics of the completed ring and that yummy ACA! :appl:
Its really shocking how so many B&Ms do not know much about a diamond's cut

Can't wait to see your photos! My experience with Whiteflash was superb! Congrats!

Yay Jonas!!!! :appl: You did a great job and you should be very proud of the diamond you chose!!! She is going to love it! And as a mother, I love how you talked about your mom! I am betting you are going to be a great husband, too! Can't wait to see your ring!

Great! Can't wait to see the pics! This is a really exciting time for you!

(And I'm not at all surprised at your experience in a B/M store...)

ha.. :naughty: so she went to bed and i just spent a good while staring at it in the spare bedroom.. twirling it all around.. looking through the viewer.. i tell you what that little H&A viewer thing is amazing... so so so cool... then i twirled it somemore. dropped it in the carpet... lol... small panic there for 2 secs but found it... you know i really felt like a little 12 year old boy when i saw a bike under the tree at xmas...... oh... also, it sure looks white as heck for being an H to me.

so i gathered up my crappy metro pcs phone and tried my best brian gavin picture impersonations...

well that was a fiasco.. that cellphone is horrific at pics, but i was able to kind of get one that was sparkly
and then one that kind of showed some arrows going on... :appl: :appl:

had some fun and now its time for bed...
hid it as best as i could and heres to hoping she doesnt try to do some kind of spring cleaning while im at work!!!!!!!!!

will come back and post when its set...

Hi Jonas...your story made me laugh! Especially the part where you were speaking another language to the "sales" people at the store...LOL! It sure does pay to educate yourself and your stone looks quite amazing! Lucky girl whose fiance takes the time to learn about what makes a great diamond. congrats on all your hard work that paid off.

and thanks for posting your story and your pictures; can't wait to see it set and hear your proposal story.

It looks amazing! I can't wait to see it set and hear about her reaction to it when you propose!
Congrats!!

Jonas, I think I would like to be your friend! That post was fabulous & made me smile :))

Your diamond is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and it is SO sparkly! I am so happy you feel educated & clearly very happy with your diamond. You are just going to blow your girlie away with it & I can't wait to see pictures of the setting & hand pics when she says "Yes!"

Beautiful - you did a fabulous job! Can't wait to see the finished ring!

Gorgeous stone!!! And I just love your enthusiasm and that you are sharing this excitement with your mom!! I hope my son's will share with me when they are ready to propose!!!

Best of luck with your proposal!!!

I just love reading how excited you are. You can really sense that in your words!!! :appl: I laughed at your twirling around story ;) been there!!

Hi,

Such a nice post. I wish you and your girl the very best.

Annette

Congratulations, that is a beautiful diamond!

What a firecracker!! :) Well done!

thanks for all the well wishes!!! oh my gosh.. i have something else funny to share from today.

just hilarious..

The guy I chose to make and set the ring is working on the setting and he said he would be ready for me to bring the stone in on monday. Well while I was doing my chores today, i decided to take it to another place just down the road for fun just to see it in their lovely lights and to compare it to any other stones loose they might have. figure I only have a few days left with it loose, and, well, its pretty fun to play with it loose. :naughty: :naughty:

So anyways, I go in this one place and I ask the jeweler what he thinks of my stone and if I got a good deal. He asks me where I got it, I say the dreaded 'ONLINE" He promptly takes a look at it in front of me for a few minutes, and says, its FAKE.. that its a moissanite... lol

FAKE.. i kid you not....

well i just about laughed so much i started crying.. there he is looking at me like im crazy and me looking at him like he's crazy. Im like, what makes you think its fake. he goes, oh... just doesnt look right to me... he then picks up some device.. sticks it on it and it shows up blue and then he says.. yup.. fake... if they have a return policy send it back immediately, now in the meantime, I have a few loose stones.. real diamonds.. would you like to look at one. I have a nice one in the back....... "DONT YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE YOUR FIANCE GETS A REAL DIAMOND?"

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.........

Im like sure thing bud.. bring out your "REAL" diamond. So he goes in the back and comes out with a complete Dud. Something that must score a 10 on the HCA I bet. Anyways, I look at it and im like, but that stone looks dead.. i dont see any fire or brilliance or scintillation. And he goes, well thats cuz its real, your stone is fake... real diamonds dont look like yours... i just about blew snat out of my nose..

i swear to god i am not making this up...

well i simply composed myself and looked at him and said... well my friend, good luck with that, im happy with my "SPARKLY MOISSANITE' and with that i started cracking up again and headed on out

can you imagine??? lol.. how these types of people stay in business is beyond me... crazy...

i should go log a complaint on them with the Better Business Bureau or something...

anyways... that was the highlight of my day... alright.. once again.. thanks for the kind words.. ill get some pics up monday of it..

:appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:

OMG. So because it sparkled it was fake? What a fool.

Oh my goodness! That's so terrible that there are actually people who think a diamond isn't supposed to sparkle. Very sad. Well, all he needed to do was point a diamond tester at it to prove it to himself. ::)

That's a firecracker of a tale!!! Good one - and I'm so glad that you are such a well informed consumer that there was no way you were going to fall for his crap!! I feel sorry for people who DO buy from him. Frozen spit, anyone???

I'm excited for this diamond to be set and the finished product --- good luck and enjoy the journey!

So excited for you Jonas! I remember when you were posting a while back. I'm sure your diamond is amazing, Bgd has such gorgeous stones. Great that you involved your mom, I have two sons and hope that they share their plans with me when the time comes.

I had some negative reactions when I took my stone unset to local jewelers but nowhere close to what that con man tried to pull on you :nono: That's just bad business, lying to a customer. I bet he wishes there was no such thing as the internet!
