My stud upgrade is here! I have 16 photos to post. The studs are S.T.U.N.N.I.N.G.! The old ones were 0.68 ctw, Blue Nile Signature line, E/F.
The new ones are 1.12 ctw, both GIA-certified D, eyeclean Si2, ideal cut, 1.4 and 1.8 on the HCA.
Observations? They are absolutely eyeclean. I can't see anything in them. Sparkle? No need to pay the Signature line premium if you choose well. These are every bit as sparkly as my Signature studs were, and every bit as sparkly as my D .52 pendant which is AGS triple 0, scoring 1 on the HCA. The sparkle and fire of these stud diamonds is INCREDIBLE!
AND, I'm extremely happy with what I paid. They were right on the minimum spend to get the upgrade, cheaper than lower colour grades in stock at that time. My favourite combination is D/eyeclean Si2, because I fell in love with D colour when I got my James Allen D .52 - I can absolutely see the extra iciness - but I hate paying for clarity I can't see.
Result? I got maximum sparkle, maximum colour, favoured clarity, and all right on the minimum spend!
The price was excellent. The old ones were $1600, and these were $3200. These prices include the settings. The diamonds were the only pair of this carat weight at this price point - all the others were at least $200 more. I KNEW they were a good price when I saw them!! And I only paid $1600 right now, as obviously I paid the first lot two years ago when I got the first earrings.
I was concerned that the setting would be too bulky, but they're perfect. They are what - to me - is the perfect bezel. Medium thickness, delicate modern open back. The settings are more delicate in real life than appears in the photos.
There are some admin matters. One of the backs doesn't work, so Blue Nile said I can send them back with a prepaid label or I can buy another back downtown and they will reimburse me. They have only included a GCAL report for one earring, not the other, and the valuation is vastly inflated at $5650 when they only cost $3200. I don't want to pay that premium so they will have to be revised down.
Here are the 16 pics! I'm including one of the dodgy back.
