Thinking About Mounting My Ruby

Yep, that is The Mother of All Halos and you can sit safely in the knowledge that your ring takes that title! :loopy:

Okay, I can see how you want a more everyday ring as opposed to a cocktail ring. I actually think it looks a good size on your hand but it is BIG. What are your other rings like? This big but with less diamonds or a bit smaller with a smattering of diamonds?

Honestly, going from The Mother Of All Halos, to small and dainty on size 7 fingers (and I'm a 6/6.5) will be an enormous change. It will look gorgeous BUT will you have mind shrinkage?

Hi LD,

I think I see where you're going with this . . . Your question has clarified a lot for me!

Yes, I do like the big rings. There was the recent sapphire, which is, to me, perfect. No little diamonds to worry about, good finger coverage (10mm), I wear it a lot. Pic below.

Then there was the tourmaline from Jerry, that I don't wear because it's got little diamonds;

So, how to get a big ring out of a little stone, without using a bunch of delicate melee?

You may now remove yourself from my sofa and consider yourself cured!

I think you've found the solution by yourself. To summarise:

1. Little diamonds annoy, worry you and stress you out. So bigger diamonds are needed.
2. You want to make your ruby have more presence but without millions of melee
3. You need finger coverage but not just width
4. So the answer is bigger diamonds and ......................................... :appl: We're done!

Do you remember my half carat HPHT red diamond? That's a similar setting and gives presence (bearing in mind we have similar size fingers)! So how about a bigger diamond halo????? Or if you don't want the same as the sapphire, how about a pear halo?

Whoa, that is the mother halo!

I love the idea of a pear halo - especially for a ruby. So regal!

that is the most beautiful ruby I've ever seen!

That is a stunner of a ruby! Love the color in the Mother of All Halos

Thank you, Minous and Athena. The color is nice when the light is on it, but it's a bit darker with less light.

UPDATE

Okay, now I'm just bummed. :(sad

I just got an email from Luann at IDJewelry. Apparently, she says she made a typo.

The price she originally quoted is actually $1000 less than it should be.

So, I can't afford another $1000, so it'll have to wait.

Whatever . . .

I guess the ruby will just have to sit in the mother of all halos. At least I'll know where to find it.

Initially I did not read this thread because the title made me think of the GENIUS film Desperate Living. Glad I'm not the only one who's mind is a gutter.

oh yeah love the stone.

The current setting is WOW! I'm sorry the quote is higher than expected but at least you can still wear this Mother of all Halos ruby ring.

Although it doesn't matter now, and it might sound silly, but perhaps one can counter the dreaded "mind shrinkage" by wearing the appropriate shade of red nail polish. The right shade of polish might accentuate the red in the ruby giving it greater presence. I am basing this on the idea (maybe it's wrong) that to bring out, say, the colour in one's blue eyes for example, you can wear a blue shirt!

That's a disappointment. In the meantime, just make sure you keep it away from your other rings...if any do disappear, you'll know what happened...
