I have been lurking on this forum for months and need everyone's expertise, please. I bought a J XXX RBC 1.56 ct for my solitaire engagement ring (upgrade - kept my old one). GIA #5156888965.

Since it's triple excellent and ideal cut I didn't bother with the HCA. Well just for fun I entered everything in...it's coming back with a 4.7??

Here are the exact specs:
7.40 x 7.44 x 6.42 mm
Carat weight 1.56
Clarity SI2 (eye clean)
Cut: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Flour: None

Total Depth: 62.4%
Table size 57%
Crown angle: 34
Crown height: 41.1
Pavillion angle: 41.4
Pavillion depth: 44%
Star length: 50%
Lower half: 75%
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick, faceted (3.5%)
Culet: None

I'm still within my return period. I bought it at a local jeweler. Price was the same as JA with same specs so I went with it. Thank you!!!

A bit too deep and the pavillion angle is too high in contract to the crown..

My suggestion is return it. If prices are similar with jeweler as they are online give him exact specifics on what you would like and tell him you would like an Idealscope of the stone before committing.

If you can return, I would return definitely.

SHOOT. I entered numbers wrong on top post and it's too late to edit. Crown height is 14.5%.

Total Depth: 62.4%
Table size 57%
Crown angle: 34.0
Crown height: 14.5%
Pavillion angle: 41.4
Pavillion depth: 44%
Star length: 50%
Lower half: 75%
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick, faceted
Culet: None

Sorry for all the questions just bummed I might need to go diamond hunting again. This one took me forever to decide on.

It is set high in a semi cathedral setting if that helps.

So with that correction....still return? Thank you all SOOOO much for your help so far! :twirl:

Pavilion angle is too high. You don't want higher than 41.0 in general. I personally would take the opportunity to get the best possible stone. You'll generally get a better HCA score if you keep crown angle 34-35 and pav angle 40.6-41.0. Keep depth no more than 62.3.

Lower half: 75%
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick, faceted
Culet: None

Sorry here is correct crown height. Still sounds like everyhing is a little "off" for best light return. ;(

Unfortunately, still return. Get a list of diamonds you like, staying within the specs provided and post them on here and we can go from there.

Those two look good, you need a gemologist to make sure they are not hazy, and are eye clean.

Thank you all so much!!
