Hi everyone :)

I'm new to the forum and I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on halo-style diamond studs? In particular, the Tiffany versions here are 0.32 ctw and about 3mm (https://bit.ly/2ItU8P9). Do people think they look too small on the model in the picture?

I have similar ones to the Tiffany version (unsure about ctw as they were a gift long time ago). They are about 5.5-6mm but look TINY on me. IMO, they look smaller on my ears than the ~3mm one on the Tiffany model, because i have huge earlobes/huge facial features. I feel like they look like studs made for an infant :/ but I can't tell if this is DSS or my huge earlobes/face.

I'm considering getting bigger halo studs. Are they worth it? Or should i use my funds for a solitaire setting instead??

Plenty of people on here have modest diamonds as studs, from what I can tell, and I have seen that they are often upgraded with 'huggies' (I think that's the correct term), which are separate halos.

You could go for solitaire studs now and then increase their visual size with 'huggies' at a later date? :)

I believe you mean jackets. Huggies are small loops that hug the earlobe.

5.8mm studs with 5 pointer jackets from IDJ. Sorry it's a poor pic but ear selfies are tough!

Thanks so much for your replies everyone!

See attached for what I mean. I measured them again, and they are pretty close to 6mm. Is it just me or do these look tiny on my giant earlobes? Can't tell if it's DSS or the earrings. I like the idea of dainty jewelry but these just feel so small, they dont seem to have any presence whatsoever :/

I'm just afraid anything bigger would be too "showy" but these just seem almost invisible.

Hullo, I have big meaty earlobes. I wear 8mm rounds and they still look small! My daughter, she with the petite lobes, wears .40 carat and they cover more!
Sigh. I would recommend getting a diamond halo to boost size. And then you can get various other gems as studs and mix it up as you like.

@Bron357 - I think the OP already has a halo. I *think* her photo is of her studs in their halos.

@lovelyyy - I don't think your earlobes are particularly large. And I think the smaller studs look very elegant and pretty on your ear.

However, if you want something larger, I'd suggest pulling apart your existing earrings and having the center stones made into solitaire studs - no halo. Then buy larger jackets that will pump up your center stones a LOT. I'm guessing that the diamonds in your studs are about 1 point each - which is roughly 1.4mm. If you switched to 5 point stones, you'd have something more cluster / daisy-like, and it would increase the width of your earring by 2.2mm. You would find that would be a HUGE difference. Your earrings would go from roughly 6mm to 8mm - a very different looking earring.

You could send your current studs to IDJ in New York and they'd change the center stones into studs, and make you large jackets. Alternately, you could always do a double halo. In double halos, the inner halo is normally smaller than the larger halo. So, if your current, inner halo was 1pt stones and 1.4mm, and you did a larger, outer halo in 3 pt stones (2mm), you'd be adding FOUR mm to your diameter. Completely different looking earrings.

Good luck!
