First of all I want to apologize about a rude typo I made. I meant to say that I *CAN* imagine what you''ve described for your country club venue to be gorgeous. I accidentally wrote *cant''* which I TOTALLY didn''t mean! It sounds totally divine!

I''ve been to the Twin Cities 4 times already and seen every season except for Spring. Its such a neat place! Probably helps that I love hanging out with my friend and her husband when I''m there and they have a stellar wine cellar to sip from but we always have fun being out and about in the area.

I''m not sure if its affiliated with a university or not. Its Catholic and totally grand and cavernous inside. This place had an aisle a mile long too! I loved the pictures from their ceremony because of the stained glass windows and dome. They had their reception at Christos (used to be a train station).

When I say ''sexy'' I guess I mean ''wedding sexy.'' By that I mean a fitted corseted top with a full skirt or maybe a non-cleavagey front with a low cut back and fitted silhouette. *Sexy* enough for the husband but demure enough for grandama too!

I suppose knowing that #2 has a fully lined option is a blessing and a curse! It makes the decision that much harder. I say go try them both on again, with some people whose opinion you trust (but won''t bulldoze you into a decision) and marinate in them a little bit. Walk around, sit down (to check for comfort), put on some heels and veil... just look at yourself and listen to the feelings in the pit of your stomach. I tried on 100 gowns and liked the way many of them looked on me but I got a feeling in the pit of my stomach when I put on the one I ended up buying. I also knew that my husband would love the gown I chose. Others that I liked I sorta of knew he wouldn''t go for. If you were to show both of the gowns (in a picture) to your FI, what would he say? Based on what you''ve told us about him and the pictures you''ve posted of the two of you I''d guess #1 because its more classic and he seems like an outdoorsy guy. For some reason I equate the outdoorsy, hiking thing to appreciating a nicely-executed classic looking gown.

Sorry for the rambling! I look forward to hearing about your final choice and other wedding plans!
Gosh, I didn''t even see the "''t" after "can"... I read exactly what you really meant. :-) But thanks for clarifying anyway!

I have been SO tempted to email FI the pictures to see what he thinks... What I''d love to do is send him five different dresses and he has to narrow it down to his two favorite. Hopefully it would be the ones I love. Then at least I know I''m close. I think I might do that actually! It''s funny... he is my best friend, and I bounce almost everything off of him, as he does me... It''s not so easy making a decision this big that involves him without getting his two cents! I know... I know... It''s totally anti-tradition, but you know what, if it makes for a less stressful dress process... I''m for it!

Spring used to be my least favorite season in MN because I just wanted it to be WARM... However, it has climbed to either my favorite or second favorite season as everything is in bloom and so beautiful... :-) You should really try coming out at the end of May some year...

Thanks for all of your advice! It has been extremely helpful... Especially the bit about being outdoorsy and having a classic dress... Very true. :-)

Hope you''re having a great day!

Love #1. The neckline is a little different than the strapless look, and the lace and skirt are beautiful.

Okay, well both are AMAZING! I don''t think you could go wrong with either...

If I had to choose, I would go with #2. I think the cut is divine. You get the fitted/"sexy" look at the top, but the bottom makes it very elegant and still formal...It''s a tough choice, though!

DON'T!!!!!! If he doesn't choose even one of two that you like, then where will you be?? You could end up more stressed than you are now.

Just a personal story, My DH says he NEVER would have picked the dress I wore if I had asked him for his opinion before the wedding, but afterwards, he said he couldn't imagine me in anything else. YOU know your body best and YOU know what you look good in. Please just trust your own instincts.

You are setting your FI up. If he doesn't choose either dress, then only you are dissapointed and your FI will have no idea why.

ETA: If you must have his opinion, just send him the two links and ask which one he likes. There is no need to trick him.

I agree with Meresal. Before I even went shopping I had printed out tons of pictures and I did show them to my FI to get an idea of what he liked. He sort of ranked them. Well the dress he liked least is the one I bought! I love it and how it looks on so I am trying to reassure myself and I am pretty sure he won''t remember even seeing the picture 2 years earlier, but just don''t give yourself the added stress as Meresal pointed out.

When I first read your idea of sending a few and including the ones you are considering I thought, "Great idea!!"

Then I read Meresal''s post and I have to agree a little with her. My husband is HORRIBLE at imagining how things will look on me (same goes for explaining my ideas for home decor... he doesn''t get it until its done and all put together). He has proven this by picking out clothes for me that just don''t work well and that are not flattering. If you think you can handle him seeing a stock photo or pictures of other women in the dresses before your wedding then I think just showing him what you''re considering is a great idea. Even if he sees the dress he won''t see your accessories, hair, make up, etc all put together until the big day so it will still be a surprise. Perhaps you can resort to this if even after youve visited the gowns with friends and you''re still unsure. He can be the tie breaker!

Omgosh, you guys... you are right about it being risky, but I read your comments too late! But it worked out GREAT! If there is one thing I know about my fiance it's that he has an eye for the detail. And he knows my body really well - I would hope! AND he knows what he likes! Lol... Anyway... Here are his thoughts on the two dresses... (I sent him more than these two but he only liked these two, so it worked out!!!)

Dress 1
I like the over the shoulder thingy - however your upper body is too perfect to cover up. (He's too sweet to me!)

Dress 2
LOVE this one. Sexy, romantic, just the right amount of lace and I can totally see you in it. Your shoulders, back and arms are beautiful. I like the high waist too. HELLOOO just looked again and it appears to be in two pieces......

I''m so glad that it worked out! I''m guessing you are going with #2?

Is that dress really 2 pieces?

Guess what?! Dress number 2 comes in a fully-lined option as well - so no tummy see-thru!

love this! i vote for #2 lined.

Great news! Now, can you send him over to Philadelphia to teach my husband how to do what he did?? Glad to hear he liked them both and can see you wearing either of them. Sweet comments on your figure too. Sounds like you got yourself a winner (in the man and the dress)!

That was my big issue with #2, too...

After your FI''s comments and finding out you can get dress 2 fully lined, I''m changing my vote!!! #2!!! WOOOO!

Went to try on dress number two tonight - LOVE the bottom (in ivory), but hated the top!! It photographs waaaayyyy better than it looks in real life!! That being said, I found a different top similar to what I imagined the top for number two would look like. It''s the top (just the TOP - no likey the skirt it''s paired with) seen at http://www.moniquelhuillier.com/ under Collections, Spring 2010, called Margarite (remember, just the top!). It looks like a super dramatic sweetheart, but it''s actually really subtle. I paired it with the high-waisted bottom from dress number two (see picture in my second post on this thread!) and we found ourselves a WINNER!!!! It is soooo figure flattering and exactly what I was hoping the number 2 option would look like!!! Just a little tweaking!! What I love about it is it provides structure on the top and it is young and fresh yet classic and timeless with the hand-sewn vintage beading and chantilly lace. ;-) Ahhh... love. THe picture on the ML web site really does not do it justice!!

Once it''s mine, I think I can take pics, so I will do that as soon as make the final decision. (Probably after my friend and sister see it on Saturday!)... Woo! Can''t wait!!

I''m so glad you found something you liked! The new top is soooo much more tailored than the first, and I like it! The other top reminded me of a bird''s nest.

I should have said that the corset, although pictured laying on the outside of an A-line skirt with a ribbon tied around it, will actually be tucked into the high-waisted skirt in the second post, so obviously no ribbon and will look almost exactly like this...

LOL - I didn''t pick up on that just seeing the pictures, but it TOTALLY looked like a bird''s nest IRL. Too funny... The one I chose does NOT!

how did the trip go???

It was unanimous! The Margarite top with the high-waisted bottom is THE ONE! Found the veil too! It all came together and felt so right!! Thanks for checking in, Lulu!! :-) I can''t wait to take some pictures with me in it! Won''t be until the spring though... when it comes in! Can''t wait!!

Congratulations!!!! That combination of dresses sounds stunning. I can''t wait to see you in the finished product!
