Thoughts on this 3.5ct G VS2?

I didn't realize a 60/60 type stone has less appeal. I guess it has less of the elongated shape and more broad on top? Explains why the spread is so good!

Maybe this one is a better option? http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/certificate.aspx?idno=2856844&file_name=1

Or this? http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/Round-cut/3.01-carat-G-color-VS1-clarity-Excellent-cut-sku-25749

It seems impossible for me to find a HCA <1 that's G or above color, 9.5mm or bigger and VS2 or above.

You mean less than 2 right?

Here is some information on 60/60 stone...doesnt tell you much though.

I thought less than 1 is even better than less than 2?

haha, it'd nearly impossible for anyone to find a less than a 1 on the hca! But less than 2 is the number we suggest. And, anything lower than a 2 means you have the best top 5% cut stone in all the stones ever cut

Oh, I found this one: http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-search?track=NavDiaSea#diamonds_pid=LD02603295

No, the HCA scores are not better the lower the number as long as it is 2.0 or lower. Most of the great stones we see actually score between 1 and 2. But you still can't tell anything without an idealscope image so I would not buy from BN.

I also do not like tables of 59 because you don't get to see as much of the crown. And I like the crown angle to be 34-35. Table 54-57 or maybe 58.

I wasn't going to buy from blue nile, I am just using them to see virtual inventory. Since I live in NYC, I can see almost all of these diamonds in person! :)

Why?

Probably their marketing at work, but I place a greater value on a GIA certificate. I could get it graded by GIA, but what if it came in at a lower classification in any category? That would be devastating.

Actually, the AGS grading carries much more weight for cut quality. It is rated ideal for light performance and their ideal category is FAR narrower than GIA excellent. You will see that most of the top cut hearts and arrows stones are graded by AGS for that reason. I have seen cases where when a color was borderline, they might bump up instead of down, but this stone looks like a solid G to me.

no need to do that.AGS lab is on par with GIA.

Alright, I'll go look at these stones and see if any of them fit the bill.

Great! The AGS G VS1 looks like a superior stone to me..one I would buy for myself! Can't wait to hear what you think!
