Thoughts on this Ritani Diamond??

This is a steep/deep with leakage under the table. I would recommend getting one of these instead.

Thank you! I cannot see the difference in these videos at all!

Hello and welcome to PriceScope, maggiec123!

Here's a better video of this diamond (tap the diamond to rotate it interactively):

Agree with Kim N that the 41/35.8 PA/CA pairing is "steep-deep", meaning both the crown angle and pavilion angle are steep, simultaneously.

Round diamonds thrive on an inverse relationship between the CA and PA, meaning as one goes towards shallow, the other should go towards steeper (and vice-versa).

A 41° PA would have much better chances of having exceptionally better light return and optical performance when paired with a shallower CA...likely in the 33-34° realm.

Inversely, a steeper 35.8° CA would be better paired with a shallower PA in the 40.4-40.5° range, maybe even 40.6° (but that may be pushing it).

Here is a great resource for recommended proportions...the chart, which was created by the inventor of both the Ideal-Scope and ASET scope, shows the inverse relationship for the various pavilion angles:

Light leakage will be the result of a steep-deep CA and PA pairing, and this leakage can be hard to see in videos until you have seen probably at least a few hundred diamond videos on seller websites.

The leakage will happen under the table (red zones in the screenshot below) resulting in very noticeably reduced brightness and liveliness of the diamond compared to diamonds that have much better proportions and angles along with a PA and CA pairing that satisfies the inverse relationship.

There is likely also some pavilion twist (dark spots circled in yellow), further compounding the light leakage problem.

Please have a look at this video which provides an outstanding visual comparison between one diamond with poor proportions/light leakage and another diamond with proper proportions/superior optics:

The great news: We are here to help!
We are all a bunch of diamond lovers and prosumers that are willing to search the inventories of a variety of websites (including Ritani) to ensure that our fellow PS'ers get a diamond with the absolute best optics for their budget...and the end result is strictly for your benefit: maximum optical performance and beauty.

Thank you both!!!! What do you think a fair price for it would be? this Information is soooo helpful

You're very welcome!
Are you still in the two week return/exchange window for Ritani?

Yeah I didn’t even get confirmation it was available yet!

Do you mind sharing what your budget is for just the loose diamond?
We'll scour their inventory and make a few choice recommendations...then you should be able to contact [email protected] and initiate a cancellation-exchange.

That’s a great question. I would say $2,500 probably. The diamond I posted was way under that which is why I nabbed it this morning without much thought :).

I found a few to take a look at...I don't want you to miss the opportunity to contact Ritani customer service to swap, so I can hold off posting them until tomorrow when they're open.
...there are a lot of anonymous visitors here and they aren't afraid to snipe recommendations that we make.
(or you can track me down on Reddit and DM me there to keep the recommendations out of the public eye...I'm easy to find)
