Thoughts on This Sapphire

So, if heated, then all else is possible, too?

Yes, if heated, it can be glass-filled, low heat, high heat, heated with borax which may be detected in fractures, or BE treated.

So should I pass on this particular stone? The certificate indicates heat as a "standard enhancement" but no "additional enhancement." Is heat a blanket term?

Many other treatments falls into heat. BE testing is separate for AGL but included for GIA.

Heat only is accepted by trade and safe to say around 90% or more of sapphire are heat treated. If BE treated or glass-filled, the price falls significantly. Do you have a photo of the report?

Here is a photo of the report. I don't have a copy of the back but I can request that my jeweler get it from the vendor.

The back isn't necessary. It just has a blurb about fancy colored sapphires. See where it says "Additional treatment"? That's where it would have "See comments" and then the disclaimer about additional testing. They routinely put that on heated yellows. In your case, they are only saying it was heated.

ETA: It says "brownish" but I don't see a lot of brown on my computer. Do you? The Brief has a darker picture, but that's just the way the Brief photos are.

Great. So no BE! Happy to hear that.

I don't see a lot of brown either. I thought that was odd but I only saw it in the jeweler's office which had a window but was primarily illuminated by fluorescents. I wish I had taken a photo of it off my hand...

Enhoerning Jewelry just listed a 2.06 ct no heat padparadscha on Loupe Troop.

There's similarly an AGL brief offered. If the price is the same, I'd take no heat, light pinkish orange over heat, brownish pinkish orange any day. Why don't you contact the Loupe Troop seller just to have a comparison on price? I certainly don't think you should pay the jeweler more $$$$/ct than what the Loupe Troop padparadscha asks for.

Just emailed. Thanks for the heads up!

Fortunately (or unfortunately!?) for me, the price is not the same. However, I'll keep this in my back pocket in case we get a windfall between now and buying time. lol. Though I doubt this beauty will last for that long.

I've noticed that GemFix has a couple of nice smaller certified Pads so BF and I are now discussing the possibility of going with a smaller size and nicer setting to get a certified Pad v. a minimalist setting to go with this stone. Decisions, decisions ...

There seem to be no further treatment than standard heat as I’ve seen AGL briefs that indicated color and clarity enhancements as additional enhancements. The color looks good on you but it shouldn’t be sold as pad and should not have a pad premium. If you are ok with the brown modifier (this should make the price friendlier), check the stone in all lighting conditions just so you see if it washes out or not.
