Thoughts on this sapphire?

This sort of thing happens =)2.

I like the tone and color of the darker one much more. I obviously can not see movement and light return, etc., in a static image so take this with a grain of salt.

I don't think it matters what your friends and family think -- this is not a Honda vs. Toyota question that could (maybe) be answered objectively. Color is king in colored stones. Which one would you rather look at a hundred times a day?

For me, sparkle gets old (not a huge fan of colorless diamonds) but color changes in every light...

I definitely am in love with its color! Seriously, it takes everything in me to not attach a zillion pictures of it to every post I make in this thread. 8) Even at its silky darkest, with the indoor light obscured from my fingers, it's still a very attractive color to me.

I'm so looking forward to getting this project moving!

Yay, congrats on finding not one, but 2 beautiful stones you love! Never feel bad for updating an old thread with gorgeousness like this! P.S. the darker one is my favorite shade of Pad. I so wish I didn't feel the need to have at least 3 cts so will have to mortgage the kids to get one, lol

Thank you! It's my favorite shade too, so I'm estatic that I could get my hands on it, in my favorite shape no less. Fingers crossed that your dream pad comes along at a shocking sale price!

My vote is always keep both if you can!

My vote is always keep both if you can!

Yes, I'm definitely keeping both! To tell you the truth, the combined cost of both of them is less than my original stone budget of $1500, so I ended up justifying buying the two of them haha. It's just a matter of what to do with my extra one - the bright pink one!

Don’t discount yellow gold either. I am not a yellow gold person, but I just set a pale pink spinel in yellow gold, and oh my!! It popped!

You can't just say that and not show it off!

Not to bring my thread back from the dead, but I have some sapphires in hand now and was curious on everyone's opinions on the details of what exactly I should do now.

Basically, I bought one for this project because it was so lovely and affordable, but then one that I was so, so in love with came along and I bought that one too and ended up with two lovely pink sapphires. 8)

Here the two of them are:
6F3AAD5A-F39E-4D9D-95AB-9AF4CFDF37C6.jpeg

I know, I know, they are more saturated than what I was originally looking for. However, I had a look at some other gems and did end up deciding that the very pastel, peachy rocks clashed with my skin tone horribly, so I've been gravitating pinker. Size wise, the light one is 1.01 cts and the dark one is 1.06. Imo, they are the ideal size on my small fingers.

It's hard to see in my pictures, but the sparkle on the lighter one is very, very strong, while the darker one is silkier. Another picture for color comparison, feat the rest of my pear party:

Anyway, onto my questions.

1. I do have my heart set on using the darker one for my dream ring. Everyone (my friends, jeweler, even my mom lol) all like the lighter pink one more for its unreal sparkle though, and I agree that it's a very lovely stone. I just don't know what to do with it now! The lavender spinels are spoken for project-wise, but the aquamarines are not and I still haven't decided if I should do a pendant or a ring or what.

2. I really love rose gold, but when I took it to the jeweler, she seemed to think that white gold was the best option for it. The plan is a diamond halo, for reference. Does anyone have a pink gem and rose gold ring? If so, how do you like it?

3. They both have CGL certificates only. I trust CGL to tell me if they are heated or unheated, and both came back as unheated. Do you think it's worthwhile to get them certified elsewhere prior to setting?

Thanks for all the input so far!

I have a small morganite and diamond rose gold pinky ring
Its more pale than your gorgouse saphires but i prefer morganite in rose gold as it accentuates the pink of the gem
your stones have more satured colour
I also have my eye on a rose quartz piece i absolutly want in rose gold because i hate washed out looking rose quartz

Your pinks do look plenty pink enough not to disapair in a white setting, in fact a white metal might make them pop ?
So as has been said mixed metal could be the way to go

But its your ring, you have to love everything about it

good luck
I look forward to this very muvh

How about a haloed toi ring with both of them? d41dac57cdad5cf806bccbb4e54dafea.jpg

I do have a plan for the dark one, since I bought it for my dream ring. The plan is something like this, feat my questionable artistic ability:
8819AD81-5E3D-4EDF-B262-FCAE2015AA28.jpeg
Kind of a tapered diamond halo with pears, maybe marquise on the sides, and baguettes. I originally wanted filigree on the sides but now am thinking it'd be way too busy lol. Right now the jeweler is looking into the logistics and pricing on this, but it's the definite plan for the darker one! The lighter one is still unspoken for though, since I so kindly replaced its spot in this project with the dark one. :???:

Oooohh, it's going to be so pretty!

I am so sorry!! It was actually rose gold I set it in. However, here’s a loose pink spinel I own, which is similar in look to sapphire, sitting atop a yellow gold mount. It’s not set in there, as it’s not the right size gem for this semi-mount, but I think it looked great.

Incandescent light.

....and here’s the pink spinel in rose gold. This was taken on a miserable cloudy day.

Oh, I love it! You make a strong case for setting the lighter one in yellow gold.

So I have exactly one rose gold ring, and I thought I'd put it up next to them to color check.

(As you can see I don't have anywhere safe to put the rest of my stones so they have to hang out in my tiny box the whole time so I don't lose them. lol)

I personally love the look of the darker one with the rose gold. I think it brings out the reddish-orange undertones very well. As for the lighter one, either WG or YG will probably look better? At least, that's what I'm thinking as I stare at them. I'm thinking maaaybe WG with the aquamarines in a pendant for the light one?

Wow, look at that combi! I didn’t realize until later in the thread that your darker stone is a pad... Your profile pic is amazing! Forget the white gold halo idea, I think RG is the way to go! I think using nice white diamonds in the halo will still provide enough contrast for it to pop.

Thank you!

It does have a CGL cert stating pad, but I haven't gotten a more expensive cert for it and CGL is very liberal with their definition of pad. I think it could go either way with GIA or AGL between pink and pad, so I think I'm happy just knowing that it's cute to me; whether other people see it as pink or a pad is up to them. I got a very good deal for being a repeat customer so I'm happy either way.

Hmm I think I might have to get photoshop out to do some editing to see which I like better for the prongs! I think both could be beautiful.

Oh my goodness. All your pears together is just ❤. The 5 pastel ones on the outside of the RG ring are just so perfect together. I can see them in like, a DBTY necklace or a 5-stone pendant or something!

I'm planning on doing friendship rings with my best friend with the lavender spinels, but the aquamarines and lighter pear are quite the match, so I think a pendant would be cute with them. I just have to decide on what kind of pendant!

I just LOVE it. Your avatar is gorgeous!

I think rose gold will really pop the cooler pastel stones, like the aquas. You can also put your stones on a shiny copper coin (penny?) if you want to see rose gold or a white metal coin for white gold. You can use a wound up gold chain to see them on yellow metal.

Thank you! Definitely my favorite gem purchase so far, I just can't stop staring at it! It looks so different in every light, it's like having a warm rainbow to take out and stare at when I feel down.

I love the stones you ended up with! I would do both in rings tbh! Personally, I think the metal choice depends on what kind of ring this will be. If its something more subtle for everyday wear, white gold would be nice with a simple pave band or side stones. If its a special occasion sort of piece, rose or yellow gold would really pop on your skin tone. Either pink stone with rose/yellow gold gives me princess vibes! Super unique and girly. You can't go wrong with either. Both of @T L pictures look absolutely gorgeous!!

Totally love the drawing you did for the darker stone! That ring is going to be a showstopper for sure.

Cant wait to see how you set these babies!

Just messing around. I'm obsessed with cluster type necklaces.

Oh, pretty!! I got some chains out to have a look at the possibilities, but the lighting isn't the best this time of day, so bear with me.

Hahaha well this second project really isn't a 'right now' thing. It's last on my list of things to get set. It's just fun to imagine while I wait to hear back about my maybe-pad ring. 8) That'll be the first one to get set, followed by the lavender spinel rings.
